“Disappointing stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

Our 1st floor twin bed room was disappointing. The mattress were too soft & too high off the floor for easy access. Insufficient electrical plugs. Breakfast was VERY simple, cookies were "store-bought" in quality. People were gracious but the physical arrangement of the house & our room was poor. Location to downtown & the Hall was close but we'd choose other locations for a future trip.

Room Tip: Don't choose twin bed room on 1st floor!

Thanks so much for taking the time to post a review of the inn. We are so disappointed that you were not totally satisfied and we wish you would have notified us during your stay. The inn has a total of 18 guest rooms and if we are not fully occupied we are often able to offer other options.

The guest room that you stayed in is our only fully handicap accessible room. It is located near one of our rear entrances to the inn and this particular entrance is ramped making it very convenient for those who cannot do steps. All of the mattresses and box springs at the inn have been replaced over the course of the past two years. We do understand that mattress firmness can be a very personal preference. Based on your comment we had several staff members as well as the owner test the mattresses in that guest room and all results indicate that both mattresses are firm.

The Inn at Cooperstown serves an expanded continental breakfast that includes a hot egg entrée, fresh fruit salad, yogurt, assorted cereals and granola, homemade muffins, toast, assorted juices, tea and fresh brewed, locally roasted coffee. Our homemade muffins are oven-baked and served warm. Two types of artisanal bread, sunflower-raisin and cracked wheat, are offered for toasting. Over the years we’ve made numerous changes and improvements to our breakfast in hopes to satisfy a wide variety of guests and we frequently receive compliments on the items we serve.

Loved the location (one block from Main Street where everything, including, of course, the Hall of Fame, was located.
Staff was very friendly.
Breakfast was very good.

Also, they had coffee and tea always available in the common areas (and sometimes cookies), in addition to a coffee maker in the room.

Although the Inn was conveniently located, we were disappointed about a few things regarding the Inn itself.

The shower in our room was so small (and no, I'm not a large person) that it made it impossible to take a relaxing shower. There was no shower caddy so you had to put your shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, etc., on the floor. Then when you bent down to pick them up you bumped the back and/or side of the stall.

The comforter on the bed was thin an unappealing.

The breakfast should have stayed open later than 9:30 AM and most mornings the staff started to clear the breakfast items by 9:15.

It was not a peaceful stay as there was noise from other customers.

The parking lot was a mess. It was not paved properly and with the rain, it made for large puddles to try and get around due to the large holes.

There was no handicap parking. Yes I have a placard.

My sister and brother-in-law's room across the hall didn't even have a closet or armoir. They had a bar hanging in the corner to hang their clothes.

Blank unadorned walls were unappealing.

Room Tip: Get a good idea in advance what your room will look like.

We are sincerely disappointed that you were not totally satisfied with your accommodations and wish you would have notified us during your stay at the inn. The inn has a total of 18 guest rooms and if we are not fully occupied we are often able to offer other options.

The Inn at Cooperstown is a lovely, restored historic hotel originally built in 1874. During the restoration project, great care was taken to outfit each guest room with a private bathroom. All of the bathrooms at the inn are beautifully tiled and several have a corner shower with a terrazzo base. This stone shower base is a standard size and the remaining “walls” of the shower are enclosed with a double layer, fabric shower curtain which provides flexibility in the size of the shower. On one tiled wall of each shower there is a ceramic soap dish which can be used for bath amenities. We do appreciate your idea of a shower caddy and will add that to our project list for this winter. Thanks for the great suggestion.

While closets are often small, shallow, and sparse in historical buildings, many guest rooms at the inn do indeed have closet space. Those rooms that do not have closets have an armoire. In regards to our bed linens, we receive a significant number of compliments and requests for source information on the quilts and matelasse coverlets we use. Bed linens at the inn are layered and in the cooler months we add synthetic down comforters underneath each quilt or coverlet. All of the guest rooms throughout the inn as well as the common areas have tasteful, decorative wall hangings. And, in our hallways on the second and third floor of the building are wonderful black and white photos of Cooperstown architecture and families from the late 1800s. These photos provide a glimpse of Cooperstown in days gone by and are on loan to us from the New York State Historical Association.

Breakfast at the inn is served from 8:00 to 9:30 am each morning. Guests are welcome to start their breakfast any time during that period. Our morning staff only clears dishes for guests after they have politely asked if the guest is finished. We encourage repeat trips to our breakfast buffet as well as lingering over a hot beverage and chatting with other guests. We also leave our breakfast coffee/tea buffet fully stocked until 11:30 am.

The Inn at Cooperstown is located in the heart of the village. We are very fortunate to have a spacious, private parking lot behind the inn that can accommodate all of our guest’s vehicles. Both driveways for the inn are paved and the lot is packed gravel and stone. We do encounter puddles during heavy downpours however the lot has been equipped with an adequate drainage system and these puddles quickly disappear once a storm is over. While specific handicap spaces are not delineated there are several spaces immediately adjacent to the rear, ramped entrance to the inn. In addition to the rear parking lot, there are also two paved parking spaces immediately off the south end of the front porch of the inn.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We truly appreciate feedback from our guests.

I attended the special bed and brew package which was the best package I have ever been to. This is a beautiful, large and historic building. Very close to the Baseball Hall of Fame. The bakery right down the block is delicious. Mark is a great guy. He is friendly, outgoing, funny and has excellent taste for beer. The Inn was very nice and clean. The room were I stayed was very comfortable. I have no complaints. A+!

This is a Select Registry recommended Inn so the first thing that you need to know isn that it is a historic building. Being on the historic registry carries some responsibility for keeping it correct. This is one of the best examples of a correct restoration I have seen. At first glance I thought our room was a bit utilitarin but once I had a better look it all fell into place. The room was clean and comfortable. The WC had all the neccisary equipement and everything worked, what more could you ask. As a bed and breakfast it is supurb. The common or public area was beautifully appointed and welcoming. Although our room did not have TV there was a large one in a part of the common area if you absolutly need one. I think some of the Suites have TV. Sitting on the front porch with a glass of wine is truly a delight. The staff is the best I have ever encoutered and we have gone to places that I thought I would never find a match. The owners are on site and put themselves right out front, a pleasant change from some of the larger B&B's. Breakfast was above average and there seemed to be no end, service was offered with a heart felt smile. Questions, directions and recomendations for what to see and where to have dinner were spot on from the staff and owners, they fully support the businesses in the area. We could not have asked for a better place to stay and will return.

In regards to televisions, you are correct there is a large flat panel television in one of our common sitting rooms for guests to enjoy. In addition, our premium suite and our luxury suite have flat panel televisions. Thanks again for your kind words.

A gorgeous, old and remarkably large building, within a few minutes' walk of all the best restaurants and the Baseball Hall of Fame. Proprietors are super-friendly and make a tasty breakfast. Service is fantastic. Ample parking in the back of the inn, which is nice, because once you show up you have no need for a car.
One very minor issue is the lack of an elevator. I'd recommend packing light if you have to walk up one or two flights of stairs. I learned this the hard way.
The price is not cheap but I'd say this place is a solid value. The amenities are of similar quality to $200+/night hotels, and of course here you have the added value of a personal touch. Thumbs up!

Room Tip: First floor is ideal. No elevator.

This inn is an ideal spot for a tour of Cooperstown. It's a block from the heart of town, near wonderful eating spots and shops. It's three blocks from the Baseball Hall of Fame. It's attractive and spotlessly clean. With coffee available all day and pleasant seating areas--including a lovely front porch--and breakfast served from 8 to 9:30, this is a really great value. Free parking is adjacent, with ramps to help you get those wheelies to the reception area. Breakfast food could be better quality, but yoghurts and breads are available, along with one egg dish.
