“Luxurious but homey-a gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

This is a beautiful, historic hotel in the heart of Cooperstown. The location is within walking distance of downtown and the Baseball Hall of Fame. The room was spotless and beautifully appointed. The breakfast buffet provided with the room was remarkable. Service was flawless. I felt pampered. We traveled with a three year old and the hotel gave us a list of sitters. the sitter we hired was wonderful, very responsible and seemed to love children. We used the free wifi. We had a wonderful time and cannot wait to go back.

I had the fortunate opportunity to stay at Otesaga on a business conference several years ago and we had the entire resort to ourselves as it was late winter/early spring before the resort opened to the public. We had a fantastic time and I returned with my family later that year for a weekend getaway. This is a grand, old-style hotel that is immaculate and pays attention to details. The rooms are beautiful as is the lobby and porches...walk to the Hall of Fame and downtown...it has all the special touches a nice hotel should provide...I now really hate "chain" hotels!

Spent the Thanksgiving holiday here with family. We had a lovely time. I can't remember staying at a hotel with such wonderful service. Beautiful historical hotel. Enjoyed our meals there. The hotel plans a very nice Thanksgiving Weekend package.

We visited for one night in November. There seemed to be very few guests in the hotel. We were lucky enough to stay in a two room suite: the furniture and beds were very comfortable and the rooms overlooked the 18th green of the golf course and the lake. The suite was impressively clean. We were on the Modified American Plan so we had dinner and breakfast in the Main Dining Room (jackets are required for men at dinner). The food at dinner was very good but not fantastic for the price ($55 fixed price). The breakfast buffet was very impressive both in quality and quantity, plus you can get omelets, pancakes, waffles, french toast cooked to order as part of the buffet. The hotel employees were uniformly and unfailingly friendly and helpful during our stay. The hotel is over 100 years old so it is not like staying at a brand new shiny resort (everything is not physically perfect), rather it is more like stepping back in time with modern amenities.
We visited both the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Fenimore Art Museum on this trip. The Farmers Museum closes for winter. Is there really a lot to do in Cooperstown? Probably not, but if you're there it's likely you drove in so you can tour around that way. On a previous visit I played the golf course: it is a really nice old classic course. It's short if you are a good player, but I don't have that problem.

This classic hotel is lovely,. Beautiful room, charming views of the Lake, delicious food. Charming in every way. Great friendly courteous service. Nice place to hold an event or just get away from it all. Cooperstown is the epitome of small town living. Again, it's charming

Our family visited the Otesaga on Nov. 13-15. Initially, I was there for a conference, and my wife had vacation time, so we decided to make it a mini family vacation. My company made a mistake and did not send in my registration and deposit, so after calling 24 hours prior, I realized that I had no reservation. The reservation department at the Otesaga Resort found us a room, and even honored the conference rate (that was supposed to expire in Oct...). We arrived to find a Bellman greet us at the main entrance and he helped with all our luggage. The Bellman also was the Valet and parked our car. He found my wife's cell phone in the cup holder and brought it up to our room. The front desk person was very helpful. I requested a crib, and house keeping brought it up within minutes of our arrival. The room was very comfortable, clean with all the amenities you would expect from a 4 or 5 star resort. The rooms are quiet, and while some have a lake view, our room overlooked the front lawn. The Otsega has a formal dining room, which we chose not to use since we didn't want to dress up and had small children with us. We did not use the fitness equipment, but the room looked clean and had nice equipment. The outdoor pool was closed since it was November. The Otesaga staff was everywhere during the conference. Our coffee hours and lunch breaks were well staffed and everyone's needs were met. Check out was quick and easy. My only complaint is no coffee in the rooms. Coffee hour is from 6-7 am in the lobby, but it was hard for us to go down for that with 2 small children. Other than that we had a wonderful time and hope to return.

Room Tip: Request a lake front room.

I had always planned to bring my son to Cooperstown to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame and when Hurricane Sandy roared through our town and knocked out our power for upwards of a week, we went on a road trip. Unfortunately the weather was a bit gray and damp, so the views were somewhat diminished, but the Hotel sits right on a beautiful lake. It was a Tuesday night and the hotel felt quite empty. Our room and bathroom were spacious with lovely views of the Lake and the beds were comfortable. The highlight of our stay was breakfast the next morning. My son is a hungry teenager and he availed himself of the made to order omelets, waffles, french toast and pancakes. There was fresh squeezed orange juice and they happily gave me the iced tea I wanted. It was a walk to town and to the Hall of Fame and they let us park the car for the day in the lot so we didn't have to find parking in town. (Note - the two hour parking restriction in town isn't long enough for a Hall of Fame visit and lunch.) Would absolutely come back again - in the off season.
