“Cheap...for a reason”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

I travel for work often and often make mental notes of hotel room conditions. If a hotel room is in tip-top shape and is being cleaned properly, a customer will walk into the room with the feeling that nobody else was ever there...and YES there are some hotel rooms I have had that feeling in Not so true at this hotel.

First thing I noticed was the old worn out carpet. Next was the water stained ceiling tiles. Then the out dated particle board "fake oak" furniture.

Nice TV and strong WIFI signal though!

Entered the bathroom and immediately noticed the blackened (mildew?) grout on the floor. Spepped up the tub to see what was on top of the enclosure. Yup, plenty of dust and misc hair particles.

At this point, I was afraid to lift up the mattress to take a peek!

Sound proofing from the room above was far from adequate. I could hear every footstep and creek from the people above. It's gonna be a long sleepless night I imagine...

Thank you very much for taking the time to review us. I am certainly disappointed in what you encountered during your stay. I wish you had let us know so we could have moved you to another room. We take pride in providing our guests with clean, comfortable rooms and will be taking the necessary steps to ensure another guest does not have the experience you did.

Being in town for a wood bat tournament, not to many hotel left so for the first time I started reading the reviews, Everything that was said was true, the location was super, the room clean, just a few minutes drive from Cooperstown, Dream Park, the fun park ect... The price was good considering it's summer and the dreams park tournament is on, the staff was friendly, I would consider staying here again.

Room Tip: a/c works great it was in the 90' on Friday when we check in.

I had a conference in the area, and was precluded from staying at the Otesaga. This was less than a 10 minute drive away. Definitely a no-frills sort of place, but clean, cool, and had a lovely TV and free wi-fi. For those of you traveling Rt. 28, there are 2 Red Carpet Inns, but this is the one close to Cooperstown and about 15 miles from the other location which is closer to I-88.

Room Tip: Room 25 is an end unit with 2 double beds, so you're only sharing one wall.

There are a lot of pricey places to stay in Cooperstown. We go every year to the Ommegang brewey for Belgium Comes To Cooperstown Festival, which is the "Woodstock" of beer fests. We camped at the festival the first time we went and decided to find a hotel next time so we could actually sleep. This is about 3 or 4 miles from the brewery, so we can hang out with friends there at their campsite, wander around to the brewers sites......which is the cool thing to do. ...people who you've never met are pouring you rare beers or inviting you to their onsite pig roast. Awesome fest !....then drive back to the hotel where a hot shower and soft bed await.
This place fits the bill. The rooms are nothing special , but they are clean, roomy, the TV is decent and there's a refrigerator in the room. It's not as expensive as most other places in the area.
The first few years we called the desk guy ( owner ?)" Mr Grumpy" because he was the least friendly motel person we had met; but the last two stays, he's been pretty nice....small talk even ! Maybe he's discovered Belgian beer !
Worth considering this place......won't break the bank.

Room Tip: Visit Ommegang, even if you're not a beer geek. It's a beautiful Belgian style brewery locat...

Thank you for the nice review. I'm sorry if the desk clerk appeared grumpy in the past and will address the issue.

This motel lived up to trip advisor expectations. It was clean, inexpensive, friendly staff and within 10 minutes of dreams park. It did not have alot of frills, but extremely convenient and priced well compared to other hotels and houses for rent. We were half way between Cooperstown and Dreams field. We would stay here again if we had another of our grand kids in the tournament. no poold or resturant, but continental breakfast.

Cooperstown has always been way overpriced on lodging, even in the off-season, to the extent that I think it substantially hurts tourism. I need to be there one night, having a meeting the next day at the Otesaga, solely for the six hours I was going to be able to sleep and the time it took to shower and get out in the morning. Traveling alone, I wouldn't pay $350 for the Otesaga (though I probably would have if my wife was able to come). The Red Carpet is an old-fashioned motel south of Cooperstown, but was what the doctor ordered in this case. Relatively affordable in light of the other rates around and clean was what I needed and got.

My husband and I have stayed here every Memorial Day weekend for the past 4 years because we participate in the annual General Clinton Canoe Regatta (Cooperstown to Bainbridge, NY). We love it here because the place is clean, it has a 'fridge and microwave, it is close to the race start (just a couple of miles away), and the staff is friendly and accomodating. Rooms have been refurbished over the last couple of years, and the amenities are basic but modern. They offer in room coffeemakers, however they also provide free coffee in the office in the AM, as well as free pastries & donuts to get your morning started. Just up the road is a Pizza Hut, a grocery store, an ice cream stand, a McDonalds, and a small shopping plaza--so you can either eat out, or buy something at the grocery and heat it up in your room. Downtown is a short drive away, to the Baseball Hall of Fame, and a quaint downtown with many interesting shops and restaurants. We will be back next May!

Room Tip: Choose a room in the one story section to avoid any noise from the upper floor.
