Yesterday, my family took a drive up to Cooperstown and decided while en route to stop and get some lunch. Normally, we would have checked trip advisor before trying a new place, but I convinced my husband to stop based on the fact that this restaurant has been around for awhile and was obviously making enough money to relocate their business to a brand new building, which looked pretty cool. There were quite a few cars in the parking lot for an autumn Sunday afternoon, so we took a chance. BIG MISTAKE! I won't discuss the decor, simply because it doesn't have anything to do with the food. However, I will say that whomever made the decorating/layout decisions was not someone who had any business doing so.
Let me just say that I was extremely disappointed in the lack of family friendliness of this establishment. This is a very family oriented area and all summer long, businesses cater to families and teams visiting the Dreams Park and other area attractions. There was no kids menu, no crayons or anything for our toddler to amuse herself.
We had the fried pickle appetizer, which tasted good, but the breading pretty much shredded my gums. I ordered a $12 burger (something with a fried egg on it), as did my husband ($10-something with cream cheese and jalapeno peppers). Our daughter was stuck ordering from the side order menu and chose macaroni and cheese at $5. She also had to order a regular size $3 apple juice because they didn't have any small/child size beverages.
The moment our waitress set my plate in front of me, there was an overwhelming smell of Worcestershire sauce. My "burger" could have easily been mistaken for an overcooked meatball on a bun that was at least and inch too big for it all the way around. I ordered it cooked "medium" and it arrived well done. Other than the Worcestershire sauce, there was no flavor. The "burger" was a bit charred on the outside with a too firm texture, but then the middle was an odd different texture. My husband ordered his burger medium rare and his had the exact same appearance and texture, inside and out. There was no excuse for these burgers to be served as they were... Honestly, had we not been playing with a ticking time bomb, we would have sent it back and gone somewhere else. (Our daughter was VERY tired and cranky!) Obviously if this was the quality of food we were going to be served, I didn't want to try something else anyway. On the bright side, the french fries were good. The macaroni and cheese was good quality, made with real cheese, not some premade sauce.
We did not have any real issues with the service other than our waitress was obviously stretched a little too thin. She appeared to be the only waitstaff on duty for the whole restaurant and was also the hostess. She was polite and accomodated us as best she could given the situation.
There was nothing that this restaurant/employees did that would make us even want to give it another chance. We won't be back again.
