“excellent personal service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2009

I found the hotel interesting because it had a unique lighthouse theme, hence the name of the hotel. The service was excellent. The staff were always one step ahead, they made sure they were there for our every need. The manager of the hotel even took us sailing and toured us around Subic. That was just great. You don't get that anywhere. I travel a lot, Im a FA and I've been around the world in different hotels and I do know that service makes a whole lot of difference to the experience in a hotel. The lighthouse is fairly new and Im sure like any other business, it comes across its birth pains. Despite this fact the hotel is in very good shape. The entertainment system in the room is amazing the bathrooms are very well designed and the food particularly the ribs is soo good and margarita was awesome. It was a great experience and I'm sure this hotel has so much potential for growth. Im coming back for sure!

My husband and I are American Expats living in Manila. This is the first hotel (outside of Metro Manila "branded" hotels) that was up to western standards. As scuba divers we have traveled all around the philipines and have found accomodations to be of very poor standards. This property was a breath of fresh air. Clean, modern with excellent amenities. The staff was helpful and the service excellent. We would highly recommend this property if you are heading to Subic Bay. You can walk to several restaurants as well as the Free Port shopping area.

I been here in Lighthouse Hotel and enjoy the benefit of hazzle, traffic and black-out in Manila for the past. Imagine a hotel like Lighthouse experienced this. Yes! black-out for 5 hours. Huh! please call them why they don't have a generator to support the hotel everytime they have a brown-out.

PROS:
- huge, well-appointed, and tastefully decorated rooms with balconies overlooking the bay
- everything clean and in perfect working condition
- beautifully decorated lobby and hallways
- excellent service from everyone
- huge servings and low prices in hotel restaurant
- adequate free breakfast
- pool with jacuzzi overlooking the bay

CONS:
- small elevator (but with only 3 floors, no biggie)

OVERALL:
I go to Subic a lot, so I'd say Lighthouse is probably the best hotel in the area.

Starting with the staff - they could not do enough to help us, from reshuffling room reservations to allow us early checkin, to attending to me and my daughter's every little need without being asked, to giving us ice for my small car cooler for the ride back to Manila. Kudos to the day staff of the front desk, the restaurant staff, and Marvin at the front door.

The food in the restaurant was delicious and HUGE. When I saw the prices in the menu (starting at about P250 or $5 per entry; steaks at about $15), I thought the serving size would be small. I was wrong!

Our room was an Aqua Veranda. It has a "floating tub" and a very nice view of the bay from the balcony, with the mountains in the distance. We got a huge bed, and lots of pillows. Also had a huge wall-mounted LCD TV (though when I was looking for the USB port to the TV to play movies from my portable hard drive, I couldn't find it..must be a non-digital or plasma model TV). The room must have been soundproofed, because standing in the balcony at around 2am, there was still a very loud party about 3 properties down at Pier One, but when you get inside, it's real quiet, and with blackout curtains, you do get a good night's sleep.

There were also a lot of people hanging out and drinking by the pool bar until about 1am, but with the room being soundproofed, again not an issue. My only complaint here was that because there were so many people partying poolside, I could not find a proper parking space near the lobby when I came in at around 11pm, and I had to park around the back on the beach. Maybe Lighthouse could reserve the parking spaces out front for hotel guests?

My definition of a clean hotel is when I could lie down on the bathroom floor and not feel icky.. Here at the Lighthouse, I could have slept on the bathroom floor. It was that clean. The lobby, hallways and landings are also very clean and beautifully decorated.

The only sort of downside - Lighthouse is on the boardwalk, where most hotels of Subic are located. While the beach may be clean, the waters are murky (actually, there are very few places in Subic where I'd take a dip). No beach time for my little girl, so the pool with jacuzzi came in very handy.

The price - well, it's a boutique hotel, so don't expect it to be cheap. But at the Lighthouse, you do get what you pay for, every penny of it.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

the lighthouse is a quaint hotel. Small compared to other hotels in the area----it only has 3 floors... Although small, it totally made up for it by the lush interiors of the room. inside is a 42" flat screen TV, The bathroom has a tub and separate shower.- a soak in the tub is to die for!-- the bathroom can be seen through a floor to ceiling glass panel---very sexy!! You can put down a screen for privacy if you want--- the bed is very comfortable and they provide a LOT of comfy pillows.. - I was tempted to just stay in and relax with the TV!
the hotel is near the boardwalk where there are a lot of restaurants. it is quite far from the theme parks though- but if you have a car, it would be no problem. The price is a bit high- maybe because it is branding itself as upscale...Reminder--- everything is priced with the added 10% service charge- even the minibar!-- I don't recommend the beaches here. since this is a former base and industrial zone. the beach is not the cleanest.-- not even nice to walk on. The pool is ok.-- good for the kids to play in. The staff is nice and courteous- very friendly and helpful.

Booking: Stayed during a busy holiday season so there were issues with room availability. Reservation officer was courteous, and delivered promptly when I asked to be put on waitlist for the room type I wanted. Called me in a few hours to get me in on a cancelled booking.

Room: Loved, loved it. Pros: It was new, very neat and clean. Amazing bathroom design. Nice, big LCD tv. Booked two adjoining rooms, and were delighted we could "combine" and "separate" at will, with dual-access locking doors. Cons: Overdue change in towel inventory; While clean, they look slightly worn out. Poor soundproofing -- you can hear, very clearly and loudly, every person speaking and walking in the hallway. One guest complained about children running around in the room above hers.

Food: Good, and plentiful

Customer Service: Very responsive and polite

Amenities: Restaurant, Bar, Business Center, Function Rooms, Lounge, Sitting Areas, In-room internet, WiFi, Laundry, Toiletries

Special touches: Afternoon cocktails, Hot chocolate at nighttime,
Chocolate dipped fruit with the turndown service

Price: Costs as much as a stay at a Shangri-la in Manila. Delivers at par amenities and service at a slightly lower level of consistency and quality.

Consistency Issues:
-Room-rate inclusive Fruit platter was absent -- had to ask for it
We were invited for (free) daily cocktails on the 2nd day of our stay, but not on the first
-After the room was made up, used soaps were missing, and new ones were absent -- again, had to ask for it.
-Exact same thing with the bathrobes and fingertip towels -- had to ask for them. We think perhaps they don't have enough linen inventory to serve a fully booked hotel that they move things to "just-checked in" rooms.

Overall, we were satisfied, and will definitely stay here again. But might try the likewise fully-booked next door neighbor, Vista Marina Hotel next time (Better room rates)

The weather was terrible. It was a good thing i was stuck in a hotel with very good people. I enjoyed staying in this hotel, working at their restaurant with free internet service, delicious food and amazing view. Then at night I stayed at the 720 bar, drank a few drinks and sang a few songs with some of the guests. The people were very accomodating and friendly. It made me feel very much at home. Overall experience is worth every penny.

  • Liked — The rooms, the scenery, the service
  • Disliked — Its a little bit slippery by the pool when it rains.
