I stayed at Wild Orchid Beach Resort for three days during a motorcycle tour around the Philippines. Subic is attempting to move upscale and the Orchid--sister to the equally-nice Wild Orchid in Angeles City--sets a good standard for a higher end hotel. I paid about $85USD per night for a beachfront suite, with wireless, inroom safe, jacuzzi tub and flat screen TV. These beach front suites are actually across an alley from the primary hotel, and noisy beach parties and group karaoke nights made this a less than tranquil spot unless you come home late from the Subic bars.
The Orchid has a great restaurant, and an overabundance of very attentive staff. The swimming pool was one of the nicest I saw on my tour, with a long arm for laps and a couple of warm bubble pools.
Subic is still a bit gritty, although the Orchid owners(Australians)told me they are trying to draw a different crowd once they complete the casino now under construction.
All in all, I'd say this is a well run establishment. They even have a private daily bus shuttle between Subic, Angeles and Manila for about $11 USD each way. It's operated by Southern Cross hotel in Manila but drops you at the Orchid front door in Angeles and Subic.
