“A Spectacular View Not to be Missed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014

The city built a beautiful park overlooking these scenic falls with ample parking across the street. It's a great place to renew yourself and it's just a short drive away. If you're lucky you may see a bald eagle soaring over the falls!

“Cohoes Falls”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2014

Cohoes Falls is indeed a "hidden gem" worth seeking out. The adjacent hydropower plant uses a significant amount of the Mohawk River's flow, so the time of the year (and recent weather) will make a big difference in the flow of water over the falls. In Spring, when the snow melts, it can be quite spectacular. In a very dry summer period, you could practically walk across the "falls" without getting your feet wet (if it weren't for the fences preventing you from doing that.)

I was at the park with friends bird watching, excellent place to look for eagles esp in the winter from the Overlook. Was there around after Irene and Lee came thru and WOW!

“Cohoes Falls Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

A hidden gem, the Cohoes Falls is the second largest waterfall in NYS, that is surely worth a visit. The plaques are self-explanatory and the bridge that leads you to the falls viewpoint is charming. There are even stairs leading you closer to the falls. There is plenty of parking and a variety store on the opposite side of the street with a viewing deck of the falls. Great place to relax with a sandwich or an ice cream during the warm weather months.

I grew up in the area but, for whatever reason, I had never visited Cohoes Falls Park in Cohoes, NY. I agree with VacationTony that a waterfall is one of nature's coolest things. And here is a really nice waterfall right in our backyard. The best time to go, of course, is spring when snowmelt ramps up the rivers and the water just, well ... falls. I like this because it can be an afternoon picnic or a quick stop to see nature's majesty. There is no cost to visit the park. One of my favorite "hidden" gems of the Capital Region.
