“Relaxing getaway in a historic bed and breakfast with outstanding food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2011

We have stayed at the Asa Ransom House twice and both times we have had a wonderful experience. The house is charming and the food is always outstanding. All the rooms for overnight guests are different - check the website for more information. Also, if you just go there for dinner, you can ask to see the rooms to get an idea of what they look like. Some feature fireplaces which is a plus. The rooms are filled with antique furniture and most of the modern amenities are hidden from view. Both rooms we have stayed in were comfortable and quiet.

The food here is fantastic. Dinner is nothing short of a feast - canapes, hors d'oeuvres, soup or salad, entree, dessert and coffee. If you select the MAP Plan (dinner + lodging) almost everything is included. You also get breakfast the next morning (egg souffle, french toast, quiche). The baked goods and desserts are also very high qualiity. They also offer afternoon tea which is a real treat.

Overall, this is a wonderful place to stay. I recommend staying overnight and enjoying a dinner you won't soon forget. Don't forget to say hi to George and Gracie, the two resident golden retrievers. They add a touch of home away from home as you sit in the library by the fire and enjoy the dogs' company.

We live in Chicago and traveled to Boston for Thanksgiving, November 2010 and 2011. Clarence New York is the halfway point to break up our trip and it was the perfect place to stop and rest. We paid $250 per night and it was worth every penny. We have two dogs and it is very difficult finding a clean, comfortable, place to spend the night. We aim to arrive by 7pm so we can order a small dinner (soup and salad) in the room, relax by the fireplace in room 8, take a walk with our dogs and hit the sack. I am not sure if they typically do room service, but they didn't have a problem with bringing our dinner to our room. They are the nicest people. The next morning we took turns going to the dining room for breakfast because we didn't want to leave our dogs alone. There is a full menu to chose from and everything was delicious. I recommend their homemade quiche and they fresh baked breads and pastries were fantastic.

Room Tip: Rooms 5 and 8 are dog friendly. Room 8 is a very large spacious room. The kitchen closes at 7:30, so...

What a wonderful charming bed and breakfast! Everything was perfect! I opted for the room rate only but we did eat dinner at the Inn. Dinner was fantastic. If you were going to order the more expensive items on the menu I would suggest looking into the meal package. We stayed in the Renaissance room. It was cozy and charming. King bed, fireplace, separate sitting area and even a patio area with 2 chairs. If the weather allows it would be a perfect place to sip on a glass of wine, relax and enjoy the peaceful scenery. Waiting in our room upon arrival was a plate of fresh fruit/cheese/ crackers and cold water. Breakfast was included in the basic room rate.. Breakfast started with fresh fruit salad, pastries & muffins, and your choice of a hot item. I had the bacon cheese souffle. It was so good. At check out you get 2 packaged cookie which were also delightful. If I were to complain about one thing it would be the pillows but it's hard to find a place with the perfect pillow. Maybe bring your own. By far this is better than any hotel in the Clarence area.

Room Tip: Check out the rooms on the website for the ASA Ransom house.

We stayed in this INN on our way westwards in the States through Canada. We found a very welcoming stay with an excellent Evening meal . We stayed on a MAP rate for just one night in a lower level large room 8 with a king size bed and a TV behind a picture ! Room was a bit chintzy , as is the restaurant, but this is evident from the website so you know what you are getting . Service was good and tipping was left to your discretion upon exit at final bill payment . Furthermore although the Credit Card was required at booking to secure the room NO debit was taken until exit another nice touch.
Overall a comfortable and enjoyable stay which I have no hesitation in recommending .

We have stayed 3 times at the Asa Ransom House over the last 10 years and continue to be charmed and impressed by the great value...We wanted a last minute getaway this past weekend and decided to revisit...We had room #7 which was large and lovely with access to the lovely grounds out back...The dinner, as before was WONDERFUL and the breakfast the following a.m. was as well...We had nothing but great service ( always have, so not sure what other reviewers mean) Have nothing but praise for the inn.

Stayed at the Asa Ransom house in late July. Room very nice overlooking beautiful gardens. Check in was easy and info was detailed. Cheese, fruit, and crackers were ready and waiting in the room. Very nice pick me up after a travel day. The bed was hard as were the pillows. I agree with previous reviewers...the owner is taciturn otherwise all the other staff were wonderful. (Maybe he should just do the books from now on and not work with customers.)
Overall a very nice visit.

Spent one night in the new country garden suite (rm 10). The room was clean and filled with lovely antiques. It has been a few years since we stayed at this inn and rm 10 was the former "library" dining room. It is beautifully transformed into a suite complete with whirlpool and French doors leading to the herb garden. The room was a bit dark, but that added to the charm. The bathroom had very adequate lighting and a nice walk in shower.

We had dinner as part of the modified American plan (MAP). The meal was fabulous as was breakfast the next morning. The billing for the MAP however is a bit confusing.
It was not clear to us whether gratuity is included, and on which items as we received separate charges for our drinks and meals. We under tipped our server for dinner and this was brought to our attention at check out. We were embarrassed but were able to make the necessary adjustment to our dinner gratuity.

We've stayed at this inn at least six times over the past several years and the quality remains superb

It was so nice to see George and Grace, the house dogs. So well behaved and a sweet addition to a lovely, classy inn.

Room Tip: Look for online seasonal specials
