“The Best Bed and Breakfast Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

My wife and I along with our 6 year old son went to Limestone Mansion in Cherry Valley this past weekend (9/6 - 9/8). This impressive Victorian mansion has a number of beautiful and clean rooms. Every room has a unique look and feel to it, from the gorgeous chandlers to the antique furniture and crown moldings. Loretta and Wolfgang went above and beyond in making us feel so comfortable like if we were among family. Their breakfast are incredible and they make the "Best" Eggs Benedict that I have ever tasted. Thanks Loretta and Wolfgang for making our stay at Limestone Mansion do great.

I have been coming to the Limestone Mansion and Cherry Valley for 12 consecutive years and it is high time I give Loretta and Wolfgang Welter the five star review they deserve!
Their impressive Victorian mansion has a number of very comfortable and clean rooms, most with private bathrooms, all air-conditioned and many with ceiling fans, their breakfast is outstanding and will carry you through the day and it is served in the large and opulent parlor floor (also Wolfgang is a trained chef and can organize great dinners and receptions if you ask them in advance, he hosted two events for a musical society in NY and everybody was very happy!). Also the carriage house is a good place to hang out for family reunions and after opera drinks...
Cherry Valley offers more that it meets the eye at first: two outstanding restaurants Rose and Kettle, where young singers gather after the opera, and the Cantina de Salsa of Alex and Ika fame outstanding and cheap Mexican food and the most powerful drinks on the Western Turnpike!), a museum with interesting details of the Cherry Valley massacre of 1778 (great for teenage children who can then hunt for the markers around town) an incredible used books bookstore housed in the first telegraph building in the world (Samuel Morse summered here, and so did Allen Ginsberg..), and a few cute shops and art galleries, honorable mention to the Nectar Hills Farm store and their Angus organic beef (bring a cooler!). Also the drive to the opera is the same as to Cooperstown only smoother! In short if you want to relax in the Happy Valley (look out for the lithium springs fountain in the center of town and you see why the nickname and away from the hustle and bustle (and higher prices) of Cooperstown look no further!

Room Tip: I do like room 8 on the third floor! A couple of great rooms on the second ahve a bathroom to separa...

Cherry Valley is a small, quaint, and lovely little town near Cooperstown - and a great alternative to the hustle and bustle of Cooperstown. I recently spent 2 nights at the Limestone Mansion and couldn't have been happier. Loretta and Wolfgang went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable, and I felt right at home. They are warm and generous, but not intrusive. The home is beautifully refurbished in Victorian style, with new beds, fresh linens, and clean bathrooms. After sleeping well, you'll be ready for the amazing breakfast they'll have made to order for you. If you want a relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle, this is your spot. I'm looking forward the next time!!11

Room Tip: All rooms have A/C, mine had a ceiling fan as well. My room had a private bathroom, but I think som...

We visit cooperstown every year to tour the Baseball Hall Of Fame for our anniversary. This year, our anniversary happened to be during the Induction Weekend. We had quite a time trying to find accommodations near or in Cooperstown. I almost gave up when I made my last phone call and it was to Loretta at the Limestone Mansion. I noted the warmth in her voice and I knew that this B & B would be an excellent choice. Loretta & Wolfgang are excellent hosts. We were made to feel welcome as soon as we entered. The breakfasts were wonderful and could not be matched at any other B&B. On our anniversary, they brought our a lovely bottle of champagne and mixed it with fresh squeezed OJ in lovely champagne crystal. This started our day off on such a romantic touch. Thanks to Loretta & Wofgang for their kindness and warmth to us on our anniversary weekend celebration.

On short notice, my husband & I planned a trip to Cooperstown with our youngest son. We were directed by the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce to the Limestone Mansion in Cherry Valley. What a beautiful home in this sleepy little town! Our host & hostess, Wolfgang & Loretta Welter, greeted us with the warmth of old friends & gave us a tour of their magnificently restored mansion & carriage house. Their home is immaculate & decorated in authentic period pieces & filled with inviting, warm furnishings. We were absolutely delighted with our adjoining, beautiful rooms & spacious bathroom. Local restaurants were within walking distance for a relaxing dinner. In the morning we shared a fabulous country breakfast, prepared by our gracious hosts, in one of the sunlit dining rooms. We will definetly return to visit our new friends at the Limestone Mansion. Bravo Loretta & Wolf!

With all the nearby hotels and motels booked, the Chamber of Commerce directed us to the Limestone Mansion in nearby Cherry Valley, 20 minutes north of Coopertown. Although the B&B catered to the Opera crowd, our two sons (18 and 20) felt comfortable and welcome. The rooms were spacious and tastefully decorated without being pretentious. The breakfasts were wonderful, and our hosts very accomodating. Non-opera goers should plan alternate evening entertainment. (very quiet town and no TV in sight)
