First of all, I don't think any people work harder than Robert and his wife Lea, so if you go here, you are supporting two people who deserve every dollar they make. Did you know that Robert makes every last one of those little pie crusts by hand from scratch, or that he hand pipes the eyes nose and whiskers on every last chocolate cake "mouse" he makes? This place is really from-scratch! The prices of the pastries are extremely reasonable (keep in mind that this isn't Price Chopper, folks. You're getting hand-crafted pastries made with ingredients that you can actually pronounce). As far as taste goes, Robert's pastries aren't as sweet as most pastries you find in American bakeries, which allows the flavors of fruits, nuts, chocolate and vanilla to really come through in his pastries. It's really hard for me to pick any favorite item, but here's a list of recommendations for first-timers: For chocolate lovers, I would recommend the chocolate mousse cake, feeling fruity?, the pear-almond tart or key lime tart, vanilla lovers should try an eclair or a cupcake with vanilla buttercream frosting, Old fashioned?, get the linzor tart or the almond bakewell tart. Robert also has savory treats as well that are delicious. All I have to say is sausage rolls and scotch eggs...There's really something for everyone, and no matter what you get, you can't go wrong! My family and friends lose their minds over how good Robert's pastries are. Atmosphere-wise, there is space for sitting inside and outside, and there are also shelves where Robert sells British treats (Robert originally hails from Aberdeen, Scotland). There is also usually some nice light world music playing which gives the place a fun vibe. Robert and Lea clearly put a lot of effort into making the place look beautiful. The Chatham Village Cake Shoppe really makes it worth coming to this little town!
