First, we thought we would have a nice meal there, after reading some of the other reviews. Wrong, the steak was the worst steak and most expensive one I have ever had. The waitress approached me about taking my salad plate on 3 seperate occassions, and quite honestly it was one of the better parts of my meal, so at least I had something to eat. For what we paid for this meal I expected something special, I should have went somewhere else. $97 for 3 people and over half our meal was left on our plates. Second, this is supposed to be a pet friendly hotel, not...after leaving our dog in the room, in his cage, we were approached as soon as we walked in to be informed our dog had been barking, imagine that a dog that barks. If you don't want to hear a dog bark do not accept them in your hotel. Maybe he was distracted from all the noise in the restaurant downstairs. We travel with him and he normally does not do this, but where you can hear all the commotion downstairs, he was distracted and not used to the noise. On Friday night there was even too much noise downstairs for us to sleep. Most places we stay are not as noisy as this one. On this same trip we stayed at the Sheraton, and with the nice quiet rooms there, we did not have to be approached, because they are pet friendly. I got the feeling this is more of a social gathering spot for locals, than a place wanting to accommodate the needs of their paying guests. I found the surroundings quite stuffy and unfriendly even for humans. Finally, the room was not anything like we had seen pictures of, they were dark and dreary. I get the whole Scottish pub theme, but the rooms could be alot lighter and not so drab. The housekeeper was excellent and the only one who deserves a star, when we needed towels she was very quick at getting them for us. We won't make this mistake again, and neither should you.
Don't stay here ever!!

I believe that this guest is criticizing his whole stay based on the fact that the manager did have to speak with him about his dog. Yes, we are pet friendy. Yes, we are people friendly. However, if one of our guests was loud and disturbing the other guests, we would have to ask that person to be repectful of the other guests and quiet down. This customer's dog was barking, non-stop, for several hours. Another guest asked us to deal with the situation. The manager nicely asked that if they left the room again, they take the dog with them. (The manager, by the way is a huge dog lover, that owns 3 himself). This customer complied. The manager asked them several times, during dinner, how everything was. They said everything was just fine. If there was a problem with their dinner, I would assume that they would bring it to the manager or the waitress attention. We are not a Sheraton. We are a country inn. This is a historic home, converted into an inn. Staying here means the charm of a restaurant, pub & old world friendliness of the staff. We are very dog friendly- we have a golden doodle who lives here. He is expected to behave and not bark and disturb our guests. And he complies.
