I went to Friar Tuck (August 1-8, 2004) for the third consecutive year with my family (group of 60) and was pleasantly surprised at the improvements that have been made. The surface of the tennis and basketball courts have been re-done, new playground equipment for the children, new paint around the pools and in the hallways, mats around the indoor pool. It is great to see management addressing some of the concerns made by guests over the years. As always the food was excellent (having all meals served in the smaller restaurant off the lobby was beter than the meals in the huge dining room upstairs). Having all meals waitered (rather than buffet style) was another plus. The grounds are kept beautiful and the views of the mountains are glorious. The Friar Tuck staff, especially the housekeepers (rooms were cleaned before we returned from breakfast), were professional and always helpful.
If you are used to vacations at The Plaza or the Four Seasons, then Friar Tuck is not for you. It is whatever you make it. The opportunities to have a great time are all here.
While there are still improvements to be made, new ceiling tiles, bathrooms could use some modernizing, and please fix the leaks!, everyone in my family loves Friar Tuck. We will return again next year and hopefully for many years to come.
