“Nicest Comfort Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

We tend to have had good experiences at Comfort Inns, so we've stayed at quite a few of them. I would have to say that of them all, this one is the most appealing.
Several reviewers have mentioned the beauty of the lobby, with its huge windows, staircase and decorations, and of the breakfast area, which overlooks the lobby. I'd definitely agree with their compliments.
We arrived at the hotel to find that we had been unexpectedly upgraded from the regular jacuzzi suite we had booked to the Martin Van Buren (Presidential) Suite. So anything I say about this suite would probably not be typical of the normal suites people would be inclined to choose, which I don't doubt are very nice. The Van Buren suite has a spacious sitting room, a full kitchen, a very large jacuzzi, three televisions, two bathrooms, and two closets (one a walk-in) among other amenities. It's probably twice the size of the normal suites, and is actually set up so that two couples could share it and each couple would have their privacy as well as their own bed, TV, and bathroom. Needless to say, my wife and I were quite comfortable there.
All the staff we had contact with were quite friendly, from the housekeepers to the front desk clerk. We had no problems with the cleanliness of the room or the rest of the hotel.
The breakfast area was spacious, comfortable and well-run. The meal offerings included three types of eggs, breakfast meats, yogurt and the usual bagels, toast and waffles etc. The spread was at least as good as any other I've experienced which was included in the price of the room. The breakfast room was never crowded, and I noticed that they included several two-person tables, so that couples such as ourselves were not obliged to take up a four-person table, as is the case at many hotels.
The pool, business center (which we made frequent use of to look up and print out directions to the various attractions we would be visiting) and exercise room were all more than adequate.
We had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Book the Martin Van Buren Suite if you can.

Staying here for a wedding this weekend and got put on the first floor across from the pool. I got in close to midnight last night and couldn't get to sleep until after 1 AM because the guest staying above me was stomping around all night. Was woken abruptly this morning at 6 AM by slamming doors. It is currently the afternoon and I have been trying to get back to sleep or even just to take a 30 minute nap in but doors continue to slam, I can hear everything my neighbors are doing, the guy upstairs keeps stomping and running around, housekeeping came at like 8 AM and I am exhausted. Front desk does not have any ear plugs, either. I had a bad experience with a Comfort Inn in San Diego a couple of years ago, too. Don't believe I'll be booking with one again.

Room Tip: Don't stay on the first floor

We stayed here in late August on a day that was not especially busy. The staff was very friendly and helpful, there was plenty of parking, the free breakfast was great, and the whole place seemed cheery.

The hotel room itself was very quiet and attractive, and the beds were reasonably comfortable, though the mattresses were not on the level of quality you'd get at a Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express. (Then again, the price is also lower.) The mattresses did seem new. One of them has a big blood stain on one sash / bed skirt, however. Makes you wonder if they ever clean those, or just the sheets. The room had no odors and the climate control worked well and was quiet. Everything seemed clean at first glance - however, there were occasional strands of hair in the sheets and in the sink. Also, the cups on the sink were smudged with food -- even though they had little paper caps on them indicating they had been washed. We had to wash those out ourselves by hand.

So overall, I had the impression that everything that really matters - sheets, rug, etc. - had been washed and laundered and vacuumed, just not necessarily with much care, and only on the most basic level. This hotel is still new, so I guess they can get away with it. I would stay here again for the convenience of it, at least for the near future. But looking a year or two out, considering the lack of attention being paid to keeping anything other than the very basics clean, this hotel is going to start seeming worn out pretty fast - no matter how nice the staff might be. Still, it's an OK value for the near future as a middling property if you don't have high standards,

We stayed one night here on the way to Niagara Falls. It was comfortable and clean, and the breakfast person (Joyce?) did a great job of keeping the breakfast area well-stocked. The wifi was adequate, and the whole process of checking in went smoothly.

My one concern is that the bed wasn't very comfortable - not sure why, but it was a huge difference from our bed the following evening.

We spent one night here on our way to Lake George. The room was clean, beds were comfortable. Large dining area and the hot breakfast had a very good selection of items to choose from. Quick check-in. Only an hour away from Great Escape and Splashwater Kingdom.

We stayed at this hotel after seeing a concert in Albany. We were very pleased with the hotel. They definitely went the extra mile to furnish and decorate with a very high end feel. The rooms were great... very clean, beds were very comfortable, the the breakfast was excellent! I appreciated the flowers on the tables in the breakfast area (not real, but nice artificial)- really gave that area a nice appearance. The woman "tending" to the breakfast was giving it 100% to make sure items were hot and available and that all the areas were kept neat and clean. I loved the 6 panel doors they used for the interior doors, too.

We enjoyed a one night girls getaway at this hotel. This was the 13th time we have met in the Albany area, and this was certainly one of the best! Check-in was seamless. I had called ahead for an early check-in and it easily happened. The staff at this hotel is super friendly and helpful at all times. The lobby as you enter, with the breakfast area above on the 2nd floor is exquisite and very clean. We were located in room 313...a little creepy given that it was the full moon, but no worries...all was well. The room was spotlessly clean. The wireless wifi worked well in the room. There is classical music playing in the elevator! It seemed as if the carpet has been recently replaced in the stairwell, and perhaps even in the hallways itself.
This hotel is not in close proximity to any restaurants, but there is a free shuttle that will drive to and pick up from dining and shopping. We ate at My Place and Company. We shuttled there and did walk home. It is not a long walk-but it is not walking friendly as there is not a sidewalk.
We enjoyed the pool (comfortable temperature) and the hot tub. Both were very clean.
Breakfast in the morning was terrific! There are 2 kinds of waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon, and rest of a typical breakfast. The plates and silverware are not disposable-so that made the dining that much nicer. The young lady running the breakfast was friendly, and kept everything well stocked.
The only drawback to this hotel is that the rooms are not equipped with refrigerators-but that is a small price to pay for such a nice hotel. I highly recommend this hotel for a stay in the Albany area!
