“Our favorite place to stay near Alexandria Bay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2014

We happened upon this place by accident about three years ago. We were having a family reunion in Clayton and we could only get a room at the Thousand Island Inn because it was summer and every place in the region seemed like it was booked.

The Thousand Island Inn was a nightmare. My wife, children and myself literally left after ten minutes of receiving the keys to our room. We lost our deposit, but whatever. Anyway, we walked out, looked at each other, and realized we may be sleeping in our car for the reunion. We called around but could find nothing, so we asked the friendly Barista at Starbucks where a good place to stay would be....

...Enter Angel Rock. She suggested we try them, so we called. After telling them we just got to town and had to vacate the the substandard hotel in Clayton and my kids were not happy about sleeping in the car, we were told they were booked. We decided to go find my parents, who rented a house with my sister and her tribe to see if we could rent a closet or something. Five minutes after hanging up with Angel Rock, a very enthusiastic employee called me back and said a cabin just became available. Our luck was changing for the better.

The Cabins were very nice. Rustic but modern at the same time. Beautiful interiors, the appliances were perfect, and best of all, no bugs in the shower, on the lamp next to the bed, and the windows weren't propped open with sticks!

We have been going every year since. I cannot find one thing to complain about. Boat dock, fishing area, gorgeous cabins, outstanding staff, cleanliness, children's playground, and only a few minutes from Clayton. It was so peaceful and quiet there so sleep was easy.

I would recommend this place without hesitation. Unless, of course we have another family reunion, then I'm going to tell everyone how terrible it is so we can have more cabins to ourselves.

We stayed 2 nights at Angel Rock and we all wished it could have been longer! Beautiful, clean and very well equipped cottage. Owners are very friendly and the location was great. Even in the winter, very pretty. Cottage is well laid out with four bedrooms and two baths on the first floor and upstairs is the main living area with living room, kitchen, another bedroom and bathroom. Beautiful deck off this area. All eight of us were very impressed and hope to definitely return!!

Room Tip: All bedrooms are basically the same, if you are wanting more privacy you could take the room on the...

Came to Cape Vincent for a family event. Usually Nov is not when you would visit here but Angel Rock was great. The beautiful 5 bdrm home we stayed in was fantastic. Carol was very accommodating to our late night arrival. Overall the 7 of us had a great time with plenty of space to roam and visit with each other

We stayed 5 night at Angel Rock. Cabins were comfortable and clean. I did find fault because of all the steep stairs. Both to the front entrance and between the first and 2nd floor. We had a 5 bedroom cabin and will large was strangely layed out. No bedroom had it's own bath. and the bedroom on the living floor was away from the that Bedroom. When several couples shared the cabin you have to have to have a robe or get dressed inorder to go to the bath.

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We are built on ancient rock and no basement is possible, therefore there are 7 steps to enter the building from the parking lot. As it is a two story building, it does require use of a standard flight of steps to get to the upper floor. The floor plan for this home is shown on the website – and it does indicate 3 full baths shared by 5 bedrooms. Please note - we do have a handicapped accessible single store home directly beside this one which does not require the use of stairs.

We read so many great reviews for the Angel Rock that we decided this would be the place to spend a relaxing couple of days. The cottages sounded delightful, but the owner's description of each cottage should definitely include how many stairs there are to reach that cottage. We chose cottage #1, which was described at water front. No where in the description was it stated that there were approximately 70 steps to reach the cottage. When the number of steps equals your age, you are in trouble! After hauling our luggage, and supplies down 70 steps we were exhausted! So much for a relaxing vacation! Out cottage was lacking in most of the basic untesils for cooking. When we checked out, I was told that they had plenty of "extra" utensils and equipment in the office, but I never would have thought to "run-up" there to borrow them - the climb was too difficult.

We would like to thank you for taking the time to write this review. We always appreciate feedback so we can ensure we make changes to satisfy our customers. We are sorry you felt our description did not detail exactly how many steps there were to your cottage. We do have on our website and in our confirmation emails that this cottage is reached only by stairs. There are 45 steps to reach this cottage, with landings and breaks in between, and based on your feedback we are in the process of re-wording the website description to make this even clearer. Regarding utensils, as we discussed when you were checking out, we often have large family groups that rent multiple cottages and take utensils, dishes, and bake ware to other cottages and then do not put them back. We do admit, our cleaning crew is supposed to check this on a weekly basis and apologize for this oversight. We have restocked it with the missing items and we are truly sorry that your cottage was lacking those few items during your stay. With a phone call, or even email, we would have quickly brought you any needed items to you to save you the trouble of coming to the office to make a request. We do hope that you will return in the future and choose one of our many water view cottages that do not require the use of any stairs.

My husband and I spent one night in #7 cottage at Angel Rock on Sept. 3, 2013. Very well supplied. It even had hand soap and dish towels. Ceiling fans in both bedroom and living room helped keep the temperature comfortable, so neither the AC or heal was needed. We were able to park right in front of the cottage and their was a partial water view out the front window.

I'm personally a Singaporean and many people might think that I would prefer mainstream hotels. But no. I've heard a lot about Thousand Islands and I would like to spend a night there. Agoda was great and everything was done properly. We drove in from Canada and came in from the border. Parking was not a problem and my house was right down beside the jetty. It was very far from the reception area and it takes a little to get my baggage down there. Scenery was amazing. In front of me laid a paranomic view of windmills and Canada. Air was super fresh and nothing was better than the scenery. I did some barbecuing there and it was an amazing evening. Wifi is available at the reception area but due to the far distance from the reception area, my rented cottage could not receive wifi signal. So, oh well. The place is fantastic for family getaways. 5 star service!
