We live not far from Cape May, N.J. (some of the upstairs pictures on the wall of the Sutherland House are of Cape May) so we've seen some B&Bs in our time. My wife and I went to that area of New York for a special birthday party, and she wanted something that would be romantic, rather than the hotel scene. She came across the Sutherland House during her internet search and booked our weekend stay. The word serendipity immediately came to mind when we got there! This is a rare treat that I would recommend to anyone. The hosts Gary and Bonnie, as well as their manager, Holly, are the kind of people that you would like to have as neighbors. When you go through the building, it is immaculate and full of the kinds of things that one would expect in a great B&B. Take the time to look at the book that they have on the restoration of the house. Our stay was the best that we've had outside of our own home. We may have enjoyed the quiet a little extra because we were the only folks in the house on that particular weekend - but there was absolute peace and quiet - no noise from traffic, animals, NOTHING! And, Holly served a breakfast each morning that was better than we've ever had anywhere else. This wonderful lady puts emotion into the food (see attached photos)! We couldn't imagine a better breakfast anywhere else, even in a five star facility. We would go back there just for the breakfast! Add to that, Holly provided some very exceptional treats that you can nosh on as well as hot and cold beverages anytime during your stay. If you really need to keep attached to electronic devices like a TV, the place is well equipped throughout. We wouldn't turn any of them on just to reserve the ambiance. We LOVED the experience (and no, we're not related or compensated for our endorsement), Wish I had pictures of the other breakfasts to offer because they were all exceptional! Go there - and enjoy!
