“surprise yourself with great food far from the crowds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

most people never heard of Callicoon, small town 2 hours ( without traffice) north west of New york on the Delaware River. You have no idea where you are when you get there. it's so quaint with such a feeling of being in the far west with an old and not running train station, an abandonned hotel, small stores ( very few but nice) and Matthews. The place to hang out and to eat good food. there is a nice terrace ..the menu changes, his hamburgers are always delicicious but so are his fish, steaks and all the great dailys. He has been opened 10 years and we never had a bad meal. His wife dominique is the perfect hostess.

“A Gem in the Rough!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

Little out of the way Town, Great Chef & Kitchen. Found this off the beaten path jewel while visiting family in the area. Quants Atmosphere, Cheers type Friendly Bar Scene, Open but Intimate Dinning Room, Great Deck in Season, Down Town Menu Brimming with Originality and Flair , Served with Pride. Matthew the Chef deserves the title, a Talented Innovator who hits all the right notes. Domineque, the Hostess with the mostest make you feel welcome and treats you like old family friends. Service on the mark. An Up Martini of perfection, Momas Deserts w/ a Sambuko and coffee a timeless finish. Our go to place during our periodic visits on and off season.

“Skip This Place And Do Yourself A Favor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2012

I find Matthew's caters to locals who like to drink, and that's fine, but what about us non-drinker's who want to eat? The prices are high for food items and trying to elbow past the drinkers in the front of the place is nearly impossible. Don't even try the Mama Burger. I don't know know who's Mama thought this one up, but it's more like a slider than a full size burger!
The woman who is the floor manager has the server's so uptight, that they forget to get what you ask them for. The night we were there, all she did was yell at them. I had to ask for a new fork, (that she saw me drop on the floor), 3 times before I got one but by then...the food was cold. The manager yell's across the room at the server's. Although the decor' s nice and the girls do their best, working while you're getting yelled at is at best...difficult.
There's a little Italian place down the block with GREAT Italian food as well as pizza and if you want to spend more...try 1906. Now THAT'S a restaurant! The staff is cordial in both places and although 1906 is more upscale, they'll give you a meal you won't forget. Try the ostritch appetizer. Yummmm.
