“Spacious, Affordable Hotel in NYC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

We went to NYC for a few days to take in a couple baseball games and do some sight seeing. We found the Opera House Hotel by doing a Google search and decided to give it a try. The cost was right, room was spacious, and the staff was always very friendly and welcoming. The location of the hotel is about 3 blocks away from the nearest subway station. The biggest challenge was getting to the hotel from JFK. We had to take the AirTrain to the E line, transfer to the 6 and transfer again to the 5 line. There may have been an easier way, but we couldn't figure it out. Fortunately we understand the subway system so we were able to navigate it without incident.
There were several places to eat in the immediate vicinity. There was also a convenience store at the end of the block where we were able to pick up some bottled water and fresh fruit to keep in the room. There is coffee and tea available 24/7 down on the mezzanine floor, where the breakfast is served. Breakfast was bagels, toast, muffins, pastries, and hard boiled eggs. They also had a selection of juice. The breakfast didn't meet our needs (since we eat mainly gluten free) so we went out and found Grill 147 (total hole in the wall, but for the two of us we ate breakfast for $12). I would stay here again if our travels ever take us back to NYC.

Won tickets to the Yankees game and wanted an affordable place to stay close to the stadium and close enough to the subway to get into Time Square. We found that at the Opera House. Beautiful building, extremely spacious and well appointed rooms compared to when we have stayed in Manhattan. There is free parking available but we did not score a space and had to park a block away. It was a rather safe lot and only cost $12 for two days.
I must admit though, the area is rather sketchy and a bit scary at night but we were fine. I think part of that is just because we are from the country.
There is a subway stop less than two blocks away and it worked perfect for us getting anywhere.
The staff at the front desk was so helpful with directions and also helped us book a harbor cruise.
We did ask for a tooth brush and were told we would have to go to a drug store to get one.
The breakfast had a nice selection of pastries, cereals, fruit, juice, milk and coffee.
All in all we were very pleased with our experience.

If you don't mind staying in the Bronx, it is a quick subway trip to Manhattan. The hotel was very nice and the staff were very friendly. Kept telling us there was no parking, but there were clearly spots open, so don't know what that was about. WiFi would be nice as well, but it was an affordable place to stay and clean. A bit loud until 2:30 in the morning hearing people coming into their rooms... talking loudly in the hallway and slamming their doors.

Located on 149th near 3rd is the Opera House Hotel, totally unassuming and easy to miss. The front desk staff (Duke, Manuel and Andrew)were friendly and very helpful. The room was beautiful with high ceiling, contemporary Kohler fixtures and an upgraded feel. The reasonable price ($169) includes the normal continental breakfast. The hotel is half a block from the subway and walking distance to Yankee Stadium. There is great Mexican and Italian fare within walking distance. The subway ride to Times Square was 30 minutes. The only negative was that Verizon does not really work well in the rooms.

Stayed here for a Yankees game trip, easy access to Manhattan, walkable to the ballpark. Extremely clean and service was some of the best I've had. My friend and I felt comfortable walking in the area to and from the ballpark even at night. The best part was really the service...consistent across every staff person we encountered, helpful, friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable.

The rooms are very clean, staff is friendly and the area is multicultural with all kinds of different places to eat however charging guests 8 per day for WiFi is ridiculous; if u r paying almost $200 per night the least they should do is offer it as an amenity.

We were looking for a place to stay close to Yankee Stadium. The hotel is like a gem in the rough! The Bronx is not a very appealing neighborhood, but this hotel is gorgeous! We arrived at the hotel before check in time, but thankfully our rooms were ready. We were also fortunate enough to park in their gated parking lot. The gentlemen at the front desk were super nice, gave excellent directions and got us a cab very quickly. The room was neat, clean & quiet...just what we like. We also stopped in for their free continental breakfast, which had more than we expected. Definitely would recommend this hotel & would stay there again.
