We went to NYC for a few days to take in a couple baseball games and do some sight seeing. We found the Opera House Hotel by doing a Google search and decided to give it a try. The cost was right, room was spacious, and the staff was always very friendly and welcoming. The location of the hotel is about 3 blocks away from the nearest subway station. The biggest challenge was getting to the hotel from JFK. We had to take the AirTrain to the E line, transfer to the 6 and transfer again to the 5 line. There may have been an easier way, but we couldn't figure it out. Fortunately we understand the subway system so we were able to navigate it without incident.
There were several places to eat in the immediate vicinity. There was also a convenience store at the end of the block where we were able to pick up some bottled water and fresh fruit to keep in the room. There is coffee and tea available 24/7 down on the mezzanine floor, where the breakfast is served. Breakfast was bagels, toast, muffins, pastries, and hard boiled eggs. They also had a selection of juice. The breakfast didn't meet our needs (since we eat mainly gluten free) so we went out and found Grill 147 (total hole in the wall, but for the two of us we ate breakfast for $12). I would stay here again if our travels ever take us back to NYC.
