“Excellent hotel and people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

My husband and I stayed here on our recent trip to NYC based on the recommendations from this website and we were not disappointed. The whole staff were very friendly and helpful. They wanted us to enjoy our stay and it showed. The room was very comfortable and clean, breakfast was fresh with a good variety every morning. The hotel is close to the subway with makes it convenient to anywhere you want to go. We even took a city bus ride to Arthur Avenue and back which we really enjoyed!! We would stay here again and recommend it to anyone traveling to the area.

Hotel is fantastic! Brand new, really clean, overall great. Raja at the front desk was beyond helpful with directions, places to eat, and he even walked outside and walked off the distance between my car and a fire hydrant to make sure I wouldn't get a parking ticket. I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a 5 star experience at a 3 star price.

oh, and the beds are wicked comfortable.

Had a wonderful time this past week at the Opera House. My brother and his partner of 22 years tied the knot on the Pier at Coney Island and the Opera House was recommended as a good place to stay. What a great find! All of the staff are very helpful and friendly and the hotel is beautiful. Rooms are large and a rain shower shower head in the bathroom was perfect. I would stay there again.

We left our trip booking and planning to the last minute, which meant by the time I went to book a hotel, all I could find were horrible looking dives for several hundred $$$ a night. NO WAY! The Opera House Hotel came to the rescue and was a great option for us.

We had a lovely room, all very new - stocked with nice toiletries and linen. Most of the day was spent out and about and it was a pleasure to come back to the hotel at the end of the evening. It was about 20min on the metro into the heart of the Manhattan or $20 back to the hotel in a cab (from upper east side).

Echo what previous reviewer has said - buy a metro ticket from the station ticket office (accessed form the other side of the road from the hotel), rather than using the machines, which are usually out of order. You can pre load $20 and that should see you right for a few days.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the building have a view (of a building site!), but there is a some traffic no...

Originally I gave this hotel 3 stars for sleep quality, I based it on staying where another reviewer said the best rooms are. In a city like NY I'm hardly in my room, so unless you have specific needs/preferences regarding a view, sunshine, quiet, etc. --- all the rooms are nice. Beds and bedding are very comfortable. There isn't a simple star rating for the area, it depends on the individual and how comfortable you are with diversity. The neighborhood isn't for everyone, the service is.

We arrived at this hotel early in the morning, no sleep, after a long trip from the west coast, with a layover in salt lake city...
Akbar from front office, who offers a top notch service, offered us an early check in and the free breakfast of that day...it was just wonderful !
To be able to eat, take a shower and sleep a few hours before starting to wander the NY streets.
At no extra charge !
This makes a human difference between a hotel that cares and many others were I've been where maybe they don't have the room ready or you just have to pay more even if they do, or just wait for the afternoon...
Besides that, the hotel is brand new and truly great !
Cheap for NY, great service, good breakfast and super rooms !
The nice doorman accompanied me to the liquor store during the night...and this is an amazing thing to see in terms of service !
I didn't feel that I need protection in Bronx, its just a working class neighborhood, where people mind their own business if you stay out of theirs.
Overall, thanks to guy like Akbar and because we loved the hotel, we'll be back ! Thank you !
