“Amazing hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

The Opera House Hotel is amazing. When we first arrived, we had some doubt because of the neighborhood but we later realized the neighborhood was not as bad as it seemed. We were welcomed by Andrew, who was extremely nice. The room was spacious and very clean. We had 2 Queen beds and a huge place where we could put our luggages. The hotel is located close to the subway, which made it easy to get to Times Square. We are going back to this hotel soon that's for sure.

When we booked this hotel in August we had some doubts. The neighbourhood isn't known as the best place to stay. However I must say after we've been there this part of the Bronx is very okay to stay. When finding our way to the hotel we spoke some locals and everyone we spoke was very kind and friendly. If you want to experience the real New York, without all the tourists, I think this place is better to stay than lower Manhattan.

The hotel itself is great. Large rooms, high cealings, big bathroom and a great, large (I think the Kingbeds are 1m80 wide) bed. Breakfast comes in for free. Choices for breakfast aren't overwhelming but it sure is enough to keep you going for the start of your day. Staff at the frontdesk is extremely nice and helpfull. Especially Andrew who helped us out several times with questions and even picked up some Dutch words to greet us when we arrived.

Room cleaning could have been better. One time they forgot to give us new towels, another time there was no shampoo or bath gel. However I must mention after we communicated this to the frontdesk it was fixed in a couple of minutes.

To get to the hotel take Metroline 2 or 5 to 3Av - 149Str. Don't take the other stop at 149St (named Grand Concourse) because that will make you walk for a while. From the hotel to 42th Street is about 20 minutes when using line 2.

Conclusion; Nice hotel, friendly helpfull staff, great rooms and a very decent price. A great option for your trip to New York.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the frontside of the hotel. It will give you a view on the street. Streetnoise isn...

I'm happy to see you mention the neighborhood.. The South Bronx has much to offer and people in the Bronx in general tend to be friendlier than in any other borough.

Sorry for the mishap with the towels and the amenities but I'm glad to see it was all corrected when your brought it to our attention.

We hope to see you again soon!

This hotel was beautiful, clean, spacious and comfortable. The best thing was the hotel staff. Every employee of this hotel we had contact with was professional and very nice and went out of their way to be extra helpful. The price for this hotel was very reasonable for the location and convenience and comfort. Subway just two short blocks away. Easy to Times Square-Manhattan. Yankee stadium very close. There was a deli up the street that was also very good and prices were cheap. The breakfast was very enjoyable also at the Opera House. No negatives for the Opera House Hotel.

Beautiful, clean, new hotel convenient to the metro. Very professional staff. Nice place to relax each night after four busy days of sightseeing.

Two trains serve the nearby station - 2 and 5. Be aware that 5 doesn't run at late night, so if you are coming home late at night from the east side, you have to take some train toward the west or find the way to transfer to the 2 (we didn't try the 4 to Concourse). The 2 is 'express' through much of Manhattan, so it is not a bad trip. We generally picked it up at Times Square.

We came home late at night several times and didn't have any safety concerns walking from the metro to the hotel.

This hotel is beautiful with spacious rooms and the staff is the best I've experienced thus far. The neighborhood isn't the best. It's in the South Bronx. But the hotel is outstanding. I have traveled the world and the hotel is in the top five. Almost as good as in Amsterdam or Paris. Actually, the neighborhood is almost better than the 19th arrondissement. I'm reluctant to write this review because everybody will want to go here for their stay in New York.

I would have never thought to compare the South Bronx to the 19th arrondissement in Paris but considering the Cité des Sciences received 2.5 million visitors last year, I hope you're right and for the record, we do hope everybody want to stay at the Opera House when in New York! Thank you and we hope to see you again soon.

We stayed at this hotel just a few days after it opened in August and had a great experience. The South Bronx location is very convenient to many sites and neighborhoods in Manhattan (it is just about a block and a half from the subway, and a cross-town bus passes in front of it). Our room was very pleasant: spacious and bright, nicely decorated, and the bathroom was well designed and large~ appreciated the medicine cabinet. All the lighting and plugs you would want, and a refrigerator that isn't cluttered with minibar offerings. The free breakfast was good and there was enough seating in the dining room, which was nice. The free wireless was reliable. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful. This hotel is excellent value~ it has many amenities (space, etc) that you would expect in a far pricier property.

I have zero gripes with this hotel. The area where the hotel is located isn't the nicest, however the hotel itself is a gem.

Upon arrival I was greeted by the man behind the desk, Akbar. Now let me say, he was one of the most patient people I have ever met. In the course of trying to check me in, my reservation could not be located (thanks Expedia!), so while I waited for Expedia to fax over my information, a woman walks in and doesn't ask about parking, demands it. When told that they only have 6 spots and they are given out on a first come first serve basis she flips out (I secretly had just secured the last spot). Then after she leaves, a random child off the street walks in and starts just stupid questions about the hotel to Akbar. He maintains his composure, amuses the kid till he leaves. So the staff especially Akbar, was attentive, calm, and very accommodating.

The room was spotless, everything was incredibly modern, the bed was comfy, and the bathroom was amazing. The location is a 5 minute walk from the subway station so getting to Manhattan is simple. Only thing that wasn't the best was breakfast. I wish there were eggs but I've been to much worse. This one consisted of cereal (Kashi and Frosted Flakes), packaged oatmeal, pastries, muffins, toast, bananas, apples, and yogurt.
