A wonderful museum which shows the history of the Adirondacks as well as leaving you thinking about the future. Terrific and varied exhibits. The audio tour was worth doing. This was our second visit and we would go again.

“Wonderful museum, a must visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

This museum has expanded quite a bit since our last visit 20 years ago. I could hardly
believe it was the same place. The exhibits are terrific, there is a wonderful building
with old boats, a private train car, carriages, a tinker's wagon, numerous outbuildings.
The model fish camp is great. Plan to spend at least 3 hours for your visit, maybe longer.

“Larger and Better Than Expected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

This is a first class museum with an extensive collection in numerous buildings. We did not schedule long enough to see everything. You can visit a second time on the same ticket within seven days.

“A treasure!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013 via mobile

Another New York State treasure. While I am generally so over going to museums, this place is on a whole different level. Allow yourself enough time to really see everything this place has to offer.....although your admission is good for several days for a repeat visit. I can't think of one part of this place that wasn't extremely well done and fascinating. The docents were all very informative and eager to share their love of this place. FYI There are plenty of kids' areas with outdoor areas between the individual buildings as well as inside spots for kids to have activities. While we were there on a September Monday there were no kids and light crowds.....perfect for us retirees.

There is an on-site cafe which usually means marginal food, but surprisingly, it was very good and reasonably priced.

“A Trip Thru History”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

We learned much about logging and living in the Adirondacks in the 19th century. It was fun. My wife was in awe of the quilts in the exhibit. I found myself reminiscing about a hiking and camping trip 50 years ago. With my father we visited a fire tower and spent a night in the ranger's cabin at below the tower. During our hike to Mt. Marcy we passed a trail sign. When the area around the trail was developed the sign was removed and placed in the museum. The memories that seeing the sign again elicited were worth more than you can imagine.
