Stayed for 1 night, November 13-14. Reserved one room with Hotwire at the nightly rate of $49 USD. I was supposed to get a two-star hotel, and this was the one I was trying to get given its proximity to the Broome County Arena.
My friend and I mistook the hotel for a dormitory building when we pulled into the parking lot (next to the parking garage beneath the Binghamton High School sports field). Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted by a boy riding a bike who said, "I hope you get in a car accident." After that warm reception, we went to the reception desk to check-in.
The keys to our first room did not work, so we went back to reception and got a different room (367) instead. It took a couple of minutes to locate the elevator going up to this room as the door looked the same as the one for the adjacent hallway closet.
The room had two double beds along with a desk, TV, mini fridge and microwave. However, the room was quite worn as evidenced by the peeling duct tape surrounding the window, the bathroom outlets and plumbing next to one of the beds and unknown stains (paint, I hope) in the toilet bowl. Also, the clock radio had the wrong time on it and could not be reset.
There was complimentary wireless Internet along with an Internet computer in the lobby. Also, the hotel has a complimentary continental breakfast including a waffle maker and fruit. Unfortunately, a lacrosse team staying the hotel ate all the fruit before I got to the breakfast room.
The main purpose for the trip was to watch a Binghamton Senators hockey game at the arena, located a short walk away. The walk takes you across the Susquehanna River and past the Holiday Inn, which was the headquarters that weekend of the visiting Toronto Marlies (their team bus was in front of the hotel) and Jennie Finch's softball clinic.
Upon returning home, I learned that Hotwire had downgraded the hotel from two stars to one star. If there was an option to give a hotel even fewer stars, the Days Inn Binghamton would certainly qualify.
