“Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012 via mobile

Visited while in town and was very impressed. Staff was great and very helpful. Made my father's drink (rusty nail) and made sure it was right. Server recommended the Wedge Salad, and it was excellent. Blue cheese was freshly grated. All recommendations were right on, and great. They list homemade pickles, and they were fresh, crisp and flavorful. Should be on the must list for a visit to downturn Binghamton.

“The best in the area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

Loft is so good that we went there twice in a seven day period. Let's talk about the atmosphere first.

Loft looks upscale. Loft feels upscale. But Loft is not pretentious or off-putting. The interior is extremely well designed and incredibly clean. From the exposed bricks to the industrial pipe work suspended from the ceiling, the folks a Loft had a lot to work with and they executed it with gusto. The staff is friendly and efficient. On nights where a table wasn't available, they have seated us in "the lounge," a comfortable seating area just outside the kitchen located a half level below the main dining room. Our wait staff was incredibly attentive to getting us drinks and appetizers during our time in the lounge (it was about 15 minutes). Once seated a our table, the excellent service continued.

Night 1: grilled Trout and Fish and Chips

My wife had the grills trout and was impressed with the quality of the fish, the preparation and the final presentation. Served with a risotto cake, it was a complete meal that was far above the average Binghamton faire. The fish and chips were served with an excellent dipping sauce (not tartar) and a spiced ketchup for the fries. The dish was amazing. Equally as amazing was the fact that I couldn't finish the generous, but not ridiculously, sized portion.

Night Two: Orecchiette and Salmon nicois salad.

The orecchiette was amazing. It just was. Perfectly cooked pasta with a creamy sauce sprinkled with goat cheese brought me back to fun summers in Sicily and dinners at amazing places in NYC. If you like Italian style pasta (light, flavorful, fresh) then you should get it at Loft. If you prefer fatty, oily, over/undercooked with syrupy sauces with mystery ingredients, Cortese is just down the road.

A recent coupon book purchase scored us four $8 off coupons when you purchase two entrees. That typically put us comfortably in the low 30's for a couples night out. Even without the coupon, low 40's still isn't bad when you consider that you'll probably spend at least that at Lost Dog (where you'll walk away hungry and feeling like someone just conned you into buying magic beans).

The wine selection is also top notch and the prices are more than fair. We brought the in-laws there during a visit from "the" city and they were so surprised by the wine prices they bought extra bottles to take home.

It can get pretty busy on a Saturday. But, Loft works best when you go looking to just relax and have a good time. If you go there in a rush hoping to get in and get out as quickly as possible, you've already missed the point.

“Spacious upscale place for drinks or dining!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012 via mobile

The owners have done a spectacular job remodeling this old historic loft space and have created a unique split level configuration. The lunch and dinner menu are a bit limited, but they offer very unique selections and they are prepared and presented well! They have a decent wine and martini list and the staff has always been well trained, friendly and attentive! My only complaint is that it seems they don't realize that the lights should be dimmed down after dark. Maybe accent candles on the tables and bar could enhance the ambiance even more. Definitely worth going to check it out!

“Beautiful restaurant in downtown Binghamton serves tasty food and offers a great view from the window table.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012 via mobile

This was our second visit to the Loft , and we were pleased with our food. We had the fish and chips , enough for three.....three large pieces of flaky white fish with a crispy batter coating. The fish us on the regular menu for $19. We also had a special offered that night, lamb chops, for $31. The lamb was done perfectly and was tender and juicy. It came with a flavorful sauce. The lamb was a bit pricy, but we thought it was well worth it. Wine was $7 per glass, and was drinkable but nothing to write home about. NOTE: the small two person table in the back should be avoided...unless you enjoy a low rumble and constant vibrations that transmit to the table and the chairs....it is unsettling, but we were quickly reseated after pointing out the issue to our server. The best view is from the tables in the front where you can see the courthouse....just lovely....call ahead if you have your heart set on thiese tables. It was great to see the restaurant full at 8:30 on a holiday weekend ...this is a super addition to the city!

“A little bit of big city dining in a small town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

I had previously resided in Binghamton for the first 40+ years of my life and the only really good restaurant was Number 5. My sons wanted to expand my horizons and we went to the Loft. Food was excellent to put it mildly. Very modern decor. Because I am used to going to upscale restaurants when on vacation, I was blown away by the prices. Great meals for under $20.00. I look forward to going the next time I am in Binghamton and will continue to allow my sons to expand my horizons from a culinary standpoint.
