Although I only live an hour from Binghamton, I needed to attend a three day event at Binghamton University and did not care to drive back and forth, so I stayed here from Friday to Sunday in mid May.
I had reserved a room with a king bed via Marriott's web site for the AAA rate of $117.80 per night. However, at the last minute my teenage daughter, who originally planned to stay with others in our group, decided to stay in my room, so I asked to change my room selection to two doubles -- which the staff gladly did, although not without charging me an extra $5 per night.
Our room was spacious, clean and well appointed. Although I don't think the property is more than 10 years old, it appears to have been recently upgraded. There is plenty of free parking. Beds were exceptionally comfortable, and the linens were good quality, and included fitted bottom sheets on the beds. Plenty of feather and foam pillows were available.
I did not encounter a problem with traffic noise from the nearby interstate, although my room was on the other side of the building. The heating and AC worked well. The free wired high speed internet service worked flawlessly.
The only thing I could find to gripe about -- and this is really a minor point -- is that the bathroom exhaust fan didn't really seem to do much (a pet peeve of mine; it's a royal pain when traveling with kids or non-intimate associates when the hotel bathroom is like a sauna following a shower, meaning you have to open the bathroom door to clear the steam). In addition, the bathroom lighting was insufficient, provided by only a single small fluorescent tube above the sink.
Otherwise, this hotel was nearly perfect in every other respect. The continental breakfast was excellent, and free copies of the local newspaper are provided. While I didn't utilize the gym, pool or hot tub, they appeared typical. Ice and vending machines are located only on the first floor (there are four floors in the hotel). Although there's no restaurant on the property itself, there are chain restaurants on either side of the hotel.
The nice thing about a city the size of Binghamton is that nearly everything is within a short 10-15 minute drive, so even if your business or activity is across the city, the Fairfield is a reasonable choice.
I would definitely stay here again without hesitation.
