“Simple, cozy Catskills retreat near great hikes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

The cabins are clean and cozy and just a short drive to some beautiful hikes. We loved the fireplace, being able to cook our own meals, the general privacy of the whole joint, and just how straight forward it was to get there from NYC. The caretakers were also very accommodating and kind. It was EXACTLY what we were looking for.

One thing to keep in mind: if you're interested in hiking any of the trails nearby, definitely bring your own maps/info.

We were already planning our return trips before we even left!

Room Tip: We were in Cabin #5 which was lovely.

My wife and I went up there in January 2013 and had a fantastic time. The caretakers were very accommodating and sociable. We stayed in one of the full cabins with the fireplace and kitchen, and found the whole experience to be well worth it.

The views from right outside the cabin were amazing and just a short drive to belleayre ski resort. We sat in front of the fireplace all three nights we were there, and had plenty firewood available. It was great to have the stove and fridge available since we felt like staying in one night, and the caretakers gave recommendations for the other two nights.

The cabin was a bit lacking in the kitchen utensils, but we were able to scrounge everything we needed. the cabin definitely was a bit rustic, but had a lot of charm.

For those looking for a pampered weekend away, this probably is not for you, but if you are looking for a quiet secluded (romantic or family) trip away from it all, this is for you.

... we left 5 minutes after arrival!

I am a passionate road tripper and happen to love motels, even the ones on the crummy side. I don't think of myself as a person who'd ever bother to write a bad review. Nevertheless, this was certainly one of the most disappointing and misleading experiences I've ever had.

We go to the Catskills every year but wanted to try something new. My husband found this place online and booked it in an attempt to do something romantic, which is why I really really wanted to like this place as mentioned above. Okay, so we were told that because of a wedding there weren't any cabins left and we were a bit wary once we found a few bad reviews, but really, how bad could it be? A rustic place by the river, and our reservation slip stated that there was a seating area and a fireplace at least.

Sadly, I have to say this - I have never seen such a bleak, depressing room ever! Not an ounce of love had been put into this room. There was no seating area, no fireplace. Instead there were bare walls, two low beds with mattresses that felt like thin Futons, two wooden chairs, an orange plastic lamp on a cheap white dresser. Not a single amenity like a fridge, coffee maker or a microwave, NOT EVEN A TV! And the smell of cheap disinfectant being almost unbearable. This is what I imagine a drug rehab center or maybe juvenile detention to look like - the exact opposite from a cozy hotel room for a fall getaway. To make matters worse, the charge ($110 + tax in early October) for this "room" was exactly the same as it was for the cabins - which are a heck of a lot nicer from all I read here!

Well, after we left, we found another cabin a few miles away. Charming as can be, with a TV, full kitchen & cinnamon scent, for $76!

Thank you for your review. I am sorry you did not like our hotel rooms. I would like to explain we offer two types of accommodations: i. wood cabins with real wood burning fireplaces and two to three bedrooms and ii. hotel rooms with two double beds in our main building. The cabins come complete with full kitchens, living rooms with television, DVD players, full baths and WIFI. The hotel rooms have WIFI but no television and are very simple. Thus their rates are much lower than those of the cabins. The hotel rooms are the option for the customers who need just a simple and affordable accommodation while enjoying the beautiful surroundings our property is offering. I am not certain where you stayed afterward but our property is unique with over 40 acres and surrounded by mountains and natural beauty. We just made major improvements to the hotel rooms (heater, carpet, painting, mattresses, linens, bedding) and are planning to make our simple hotel rooms more cozy, lovely and yet affordable before the end of the year. Best wishes.

Recently, my wife and I had the pleasure of staying here. It is a beautiful location. It's nestled in the heart of the Catskills. Bellayre mountain is 5 minutes away. Hunter and windam mountain are 20 miles away. They have nice cabins which have a stove, full refirigerator and has a fireplace. There are so many hiking trails nearby and even one on their huge property. The Esopus Creek is in their big backyard. We enjoyed the friendly staff, Mike and Sheri. Their dog Bella is so cute and friendly. They are pet friendly. Our dog loved it too! We are definitely coming back for ski season!

Room Tip: we loved our cabin # 6

We wanted to escape the Cape at the end of summer, and what better place to escape to then the mountains? Cold Spring Lodge was above our expectations. Our backyard had views of mountains that we loved hiking every day, and our own fire pit that we made use of nightly! Our cabin had room for the eight of us and was comfortable and clean. Brad was the perfect host! The cabins are located close to the adorable town of Phoenicia, and Woodstock. We talk about our visit all the time and cannot wait for the day we return to Cold Spring Lodge!

My family and I have been going to the same area in the Catskill Mountains for over 50 years. About 23 years ago we started staying at Cold Spring Lodge and we absolutely love it. It is such a beautiful area. The new management is upgrading to make it even more pleasant. They have put hiking trails in the mountain behind the cabins. This year we got to take my first grandchild with us and she was only 5 months old at the time. We like the fact that we can take our dogs with us and we build fires every night in the fire pit outside and all sit around and catch up........I meet cousins there - we rent 4 cabins when we go so it's more like a family reunion. I really like the fact that they have a swimming pool, but there is a lovely lake area very nearby if you want to go boating. There are some very nice restaurants in the area.....the German restaurant right up the road owned by a man named Ralph has absolutely delicious food and the restaurant itself is very welcoming. If you want a wonderful, tranquil, peaceful vacation, Cold Spring Lodge is the place to have it!!!

Room Tip: All of the cabins are nice.

Rented a 2 bedroom cabin for my family (and our dog which they did not charge an extra fee for) - arrived and we felt as though they were waiting for us! Very friendly and accommodating - asking if we needed anything special. The cabin was cozy, clean and roomy - fireplace was great the first night. Second night we used the outdoor fire-pit and roasted marshmallows. The place is so beautiful and tranquil - there is a stream that runs along the back of the place that my kids enjoyed. The view from our back deck was just awesome. I am looking forward to returning when the leaves are in full color! Thank you Cold Spring Lodge! Certainly a great choice for the money!
