“Don't Miss Steak Nite!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

I enjoyed a suprise. We went to Max's thinking we'd get a burger or sandwich, and they sure do have a delicious selection of those. However, when we learned it was Steak Nite, which meant $5 off each steak, we decided it was a good night to splurge. Wow! The steaks were perfectly cooked, but also were served with creamy garlic mashed potatoes, and a medley of vegetables that were expertly cut and cooked just right. The entire meal was flavorful, served steaming hot and was enough to take home for the next day, too.

The atmosphere varies, as there are two rooms. The bar is darker and cozy, but the restaurant room included more light and a few families with children were also enjoying a meal that included some cheesesteaks and nachos. This is a place where you really can set a price and stick to it, if you aren't tempted, as we were, to go for the steaks.

The price of this meal was no more than $18, including salad. A true bargain, and worth the splurge. I am going back soon.

“Bar is ok. Its the pests inside.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

The bar is a good enough place for some beers and lunch. Just ignore the old dude that hangs around and will not leave customers alone while they try to eat and socialize. Because he works there, he clearly has a sense of entitlement that he can bother you, interrupt you, and say rude things to you. Hey old guy, leave us alone and let us eat! This has happened to myself and friends of mine repeatedly over the years. Its not funny or quaint or charming. Its annoying.

“Surprisingly Great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

After seeing that Homespun and Poppy's were closed, my wife, child and I reluctantly walked into what appeared to be the only reputable restaurant open. We almost walked out after going through the bar side, but we were kindly told to walk around to the restaurant side. The food and service were both great! The Fish in Fish and Chips was authentic Alaskan Halibut. The portion was overly generous and it was really meaty. The coleslaw and tarter sauce were some of the best I've ever tasted. The Ultimate Steak Sandwich was served on a soft Ciabatta roll and the mayo/parmasean/chilli/whatever sauce on it was excellent. I couldn't have expected more from an old established restaurant in this small town. If you are visiting, you should come here for a GREAT meal.

“Casual fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

We got right in on a Saturday night and sat in the bar area. If you go in not expecting fine dining in a quiet atmosphere, you might be pleased with the experience. They seem to do a pretty decent local bar business. 60s and 70s music keeps the place hopping.

We started with the pierogi appetizer which was good. The sautéed onions were key! The pork nacharitos (on the specials menu) were huge- a giant pile of pulled pork, chips, slaw and so on. And the Love Reign O'er Chicken salad had a spicy kick to it- either the chicken, the salsa ranch dressing, or maybe a little of both! 2 draft beers, appetizer and two entrees came to about $40.

“Good Food and Fun Times”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

Max's is a friendly restaurant/bar with good food in a casual atmosphere. Our group of ten enjoyed dinner that included a nice variety; steak, burgers and queasadillas. It happened to be trivia night, so we stayed and had a great time. The staff is very friendly and attentive. If you're in Beacon, Max's is the place.
