We stay at Microtels a lot and were delighted to learn that another Finger Lakes location was opening. This is an area that badly needs more reasonably-priced accommodation choices. The Seneca Falls Microtel location is great for visiting the northern end of the Lakes but staying along the Southern tier has been a problem in the past. While Bath itself offers little to the tourist, the lovely lakeside village of Hammondsport is only a few minutes away, so you can use this new Microtel as a convenient base for exploration of the matchless Keuka Lake area.
These newer Microtels are quite plush compared to the minimalist, stripped-down originals: eg., no longer a tiny, neck-craning TV perched precariously up in the corner of the room over the clothes cupboard but now large flatscreens mounted on the wall, granite and marble in thebathroom, and an ultra-cool grey/beige/slate blue colour scheme.
Our only complaint--and to be fair, this is one that applies to many places nowadays--was that the breakfast area was poorly designed and the seating inadequate for the number of overnight guests. The hotel advertises an "extended breakfast" but it seemed no different from any other Microtel and in fact, the weekend of our visit, even the basics were running out and the young staff seemed flustered and lacking in direction. I was surprised that in a location open only a couple of months, there wasn't a stronger managerial presence making sure that things went smoothly.
