“Great country home!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

This place is great! Stunning garden and grounds which you can go for a walk and relax. Their spa is also great. Service is brilliant and the food from the restaurant is amazing. They do struggle a bit when it is busy and they can't accommodate spa request at the last minute (reason for 4 stars only) but I can stay in this place any time!
Note that rooms are traditionally decorated and it's part of the overall feel of the place. If you prefer modern design then you may not like this place.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the main building!

The house and the setting were outstanding as the website suggests. The food and the level of service were particularly good. What was somewhat surprising was that everyone seemed to enjoy working there. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

When our party of 15 tried to come up with improvements, we really struggled and we are fussy!
Really enjoyed our stay and couldn't recommend it highly enough.

A beautiful hotel with lovely rooms and good service. The food at the breakfast buffet was pretty average for the price of the stay. Also very odd that they can't provide a valet service for the cars because their insurers exclude it?!!

I visited the Spa for a 'Twilight Spa Experience' which includes a 55 minute treatment and a 2 course meal in the Spa Cafe. The cost was £65 and given that the treatment alone is usually £58, then this package is a real bargain!!!! I opted for a 'Clarins Blend Personal Body Treatment' which consisted of a full body massage with both oils and an exfoliator. The treatment itself was bliss and the perfect way to unwind. Dinner afterwards was great and even though there is a set menu, there is plenty of choice. My biggest compliment is to the staff who were helpful, attentive and extremely welcoming. Everyone including reception, therapists and the restaurant staff seemed to go out of their way to make everyone's visit enjoyable. I will definitely be going back for more treatments soon!

Visited Hartwell House for afternoon tea on a week day in April. The House is absolutely stunning as are the grounds. We were served tea in the drawing room. Afternoon tea is a set affair with a selection of dainty sandwiches, tiny little cakes and scones and your choice of various different teas or coffee. At £25 per person it may not suit everyone's pocket but for a special occasion for a mum or aunt a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

We booked three rooms over the bank holiday weekend. We had been nervous of the hotel being busy over the bank holiday and we were new to the area and hotel. Reception staff were first class and upgraded our rooms without being asked. Period charm oozed from the rooms and we felt very special in our galleried rooms. Dinner was first class accompanied by the pianist who played on our request selected pieces. We really could not fault the food or service. It is not the cheapest of hotels but for a special occasion it ticked the box. House and rooms were spotless, tea coffee in room together with homemade biscuits which was a lovely touch. Hope to return again.

Room Tip: Gallery courtyard rooms are beautiful

We celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary here in April 2013 with our families ( 16 in all, including a 4yr old and a baby) with dinner, overnight accommodation & breakfast, our meals were taken in the Octagon Dinning Room, a wonderful room setting for private dinning . The staff were excellent , attentive, polite and courteous, made us feel welcome and helped make our stay memorable.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear overlook the estate park, very tranquil and also have direct access onto an enclos...
