My husband, teenage son and I visited Elephant Valley at the end of our two-week trip to Botswana. Our guide, Dennis, was wonderful on both game drives and our amazing boat ride on the river. The game in Chobe is incredible. Everywhere else that we went in Botswana we saw wonderful animals and birds but you had to search for them; at Chobe you are surrounded by wildlife.
The main selling point of Elephant Valley Lodge is the watering hole directly next to the property. We were able to watch a variety of animals and birds as they came to drink. However, we found it disturbing that the watering hole was brightly lit at night. That had to be disorienting for the animals and we felt that it made them vulnerable to predators.
There are definite downsides to Elephant Valley. The Lodge feels like a suburban hotel, rather than a safari lodge. It is not rustic at all except for the lack of air-conditioning. The food reminded me of food at a large convention; it's very bland and unadventurous.
While we enjoyed Chobe and game-viewing with Dennis, we would definitely stay somewhere else if we return to the area.
