From the moment you are greeted by hosts, Robert and Joy, you know you are in for a special experience. This is a wonderful safari lodge where everyone is made to feel welcomed.
The accommodations are very comfortable, each with a small patio with panoramic views overlooking the river and the wildlife. Our guide Lips was personable, friendly and most importantly knowledgeable about the animals and their habitat. The main lodge was a wonderful setting to enjoy dinner, drinks and conversation. What made the lodge outstanding was Robert and Joy's ability to share their love of Africa with their guests. Their attention to detail was the best we have experienced. We would love to have them as guests at a dinner party as they were such an interesting couple. And the game drives were great-huge herds of elephants, giraffes, stalking lions and so much more.

Room Tip: Stay there. All rooms share the view.

Muchenje Safari Lodge was perfect in every way! It far exceeded my highest expectations in terms of quality, service, comfort, and hospitality. Joy was beyond gracious, she truly went out of her way to make everyone's trip a resounding success. Our guide, KB, was excellent and amazing. We saw every bird and animal to be seen in Chobe, and KB knew each one by name and every detail of their life-cycles and activities. BaRrrra KB (our name for him was an attempt to honor his knowledge and kindness in two languages, Chi-Bemba and Setswana) made every day a thrill as we saw exotic birds and whole families of giraffe, elephant, mongoose, zebra, sable, kudu, and much more! He even made sure we got to see lions up close and personal! The food and personalized service at Muchenje Safari Lodge were outstanding, and the location is gorgeous and breathtaking. We loved every second of our stay at Muchenje!.

Arriving at Muchenje we almost drove into the view! The vehicle pulled right up to the reception area at the lodge, and all we could see in front was the Chobe River in flood, over to Namibia, and herds of animals grazing on the banks. What a start. The remainder of our stay did not disappoint. We were a party of nine family on a 3-day safari following a wedding in Livingstone, and we were delighted that Muchenje turned out to be a small, friendly lodge but managed superbly by Joy and Robert and their staff. The guides Lips, Synack, KB and Ocean were excellent and thanks to their expertise we both found lots of wildlife (including lion, leopard and hyena at very close quarters), and learned lots about the animals, the plant life, and the area. We liked the fact that although all 9 of us could have been squeezed into one safari vehicle, we were always given two so that we had more space and no-one needed to be "in the middle" but we met up for snacks/drinks during the drives. We also liked that we could decide our own itinerary, and split up if we wished, so that everyone made the most of their stay. The guest rooms were very comfortable (huge beds) with large ensuite bathrooms with walk-in shower and loads of towels. The deck outside each room had a perfect view of the river and beyond, and each room was orientated to give maximum privacy, whilst being a short walk to the dining room, reception and pool. One of our party did find droppings in his room each morning, which the cleaner told him was rats, although we were assured by Joy that it was the geckos that live in the thatch ceilings. We certainly never saw anything untoward at the lodge (other than a cheeky monkey or two), although a herd of elephant were grazing just a few metres away when we returned from our drive one evening. The food was just incredible - fresh, varied and delicious. Our first evening we had the most divine fillet steak we have ever tasted, the mushroom and leek combo at breakfast was so wonderful we put in a special request to have it again the morning we left, and Joy's custom-cooked eggs at breakfast were great. The firepit deck was great for post-dinner tales of the day's sightings, and the sundowner deck was the perfect spot for viewing the waterhole and catching the magnificent colours reflected in the water as the sun set directly opposite. We all went on one of the early morning walks from the lodge down to the river, which was a totally different experience to seeing the animals from the vehicles and one we were all glad we had done. In mid-May it was definitely chilly morning and evening, and we needed the capes carried in the vehicles when returning to the lodge in the evenings. Layers were the best, with a good warm wind-proof fleece on top. We were very happy we were staying just outside the park gates as we were able to go on the morning walk and night drives. Joy even helped one of our party who was travelling on to Cape Town by booking him a guest house for his arrival (which he stayed at for the whole of his trip). The little gift shop at Muchenje is well stocked by Joy and we were able to find our locally-made souvenirs and presents without leaving the lodge. Many of our party had not been on a safari before, and hopefully their great Muchenje experience will inspire them to go on further wildlife adventures. Our family in Zambia are certainly looking forward to having their own Muchenje experience in the near future after our reports.

Our stay at Muchenje was fabulous. Robert and Joy were our hosts and they were both wonderful. Special thanks to Ocean, our guide, Lipps and Nick for making our trip so memorable. The Lodge was outstanding and the staff was great and the food was wonderful. Drinks on the deck and our thatch hut overlooking the Chobe river was an experience we'll never forget. The sunsets were awesome. The personal attention we received was unbelievable. Our safaris were the best. We can't wait to return to Muchenje Lodge.

Greeted by lovely Joy and taken to the deck with a cocktail. An exhausting experience that begins each day at 5:30 am and ends after dinner at about 9:30 pm. 3 safaris in a day, but this is entirely up to you. We chose to safari all day. The obliging and knowledgable guides such as "Lips" . We saw just about every animal you could think of thanks to our guides. Our accommodation was a hut with a balcony with a view of the Chobe flood plain. Rob and Joy were our lovely hosts. Food was ok and home style. Breakfast very good.

Right from the moment we were picked up from Kasane airport, Muchenje Safari Lodge provided a fantastic experience - after settling us in the vehicle with a welcome cold drink, we set off on the 45 minute drive to the lodge, with the driver giving us lots of information about the area and stopping several times along the way so we could see the giraffes, zebras, warthogs, elephants and ostriches (this was not your normal airport to hotel transfer!).
On arrival at the lodge we could see straight away this was going to be a great stay. Firstly the location is amazing, set on an escarpment above the Chobe river with wonderful views, Secondly, the welcome was so warm - Joy and Robert are the best hosts. The room was a good size, immaculate, comfortable and had everything you could need. Then it was straight on to a very good lunch.
As it was winter, activities started at 3pm with an afternoon game drive. We saw masses of wildlife before sundowners at the water's edge. After dinner back at the lodge, we were out again for a night drive - the blanket-lined ponchos were a godsend, as we hadn't realised just how cold it would be at night. The following morning started early; we were on the road at 6am and were rewarded with a close-up view of a pride of lions feeding on a buffalo. After breakfast back at the lodge, we were off again for a game drive, picnic lunch and boat safari. The day was packed, but worth it. We saw so many animals - the guides are fantastic at spotting everything. The following day we decided to do a little less and had an early morning walk, then afternoon game drive, the highlight of which for me was watching giraffe drink from the river - we were only about 10 feet away.
After all of this we were sad to leave and are already talking about how good it would be to come back!

Our first trip to Botswana and we were told that the Delta was the place to go, they couldn't have been more wrong. We spent 3 nights at Muchenje Safari Lodge in the Chobe game reserve just an hour and half drive out of Victoria Falls and we couldn't have wanted for anything more, the service was excellent the food was like a home cooked delight and the game experience was out of this world. Our safari guide 'Ocean' was so knowledgable and not only found us the most amazing animals (including a leopard drinking from the river) but explained how he was tracking them. We did a day safari that included a boat experience were we saw elephants swimming across the Chobe river. My time there will always be remembered with great pleasure. I no we will go back.
