Part of a large group, 50 people with 16 rooms. We had to move 5 rooms because of the A/C not working. It had been a 100+ degree day. ( BTW, not as many bats come out on the hot days.) The pool was good. A hot tub located by the pool was a great relaxing break ( from the room). The water slides are not big slides, so dont get to excited. The rooms seemed clean, but musty. The "jacuzzi " bath tub should be replaced. Ours seemed dirty, with mildew around the jets. the shower head and tubs faucet needs replacing. More water came out the faucet than the showerhead. The sheets seemed clean but the bed-making i didnt understand. They had used a flat sheet on the bottom and left it about 5 inches short at the feet. Also, the top flat sheet was tucked in the bottom flat sheet all the way up to the pillow area. Had to pull it out, which untucked the bottom sheet. It was a mess. To top it off, our A/C was working fine when we arrived, but it stopped cooling during the night. It gets hot quickly in those old rooms. The b'fast was included. Had to walk to the resturant down the street. It was OK. Not a buffett. Must make a choose a plate of pancakes, eggs or bagel. All plates come with bacon. It was enough for the price( free), but dont expect much. Plenty of juice and Milk. Fill up on it .
This was the place about 20-30 yrs ago. It seems it was like a place my father would have stayed. Now, a couple of million $$ would make it a good place. If you must stay close to the cave, you can't beat it. Just make sure the A/C works in you room.

I booked this hotel because of its location and I am still glad that I did. The staff was nice and helpful, the rooms were clean and it was nice to be so close to Carlsbad Caverns. The restaurant smelt bad and the food tasted like it was just microwaved. There is a little store located across the street so you could buy food there. The gift shop was nice. The museum was eerie and kind of a joke, but a funny one. The water park was cheap but we still had lots of fun, the two water slides were good. Overall it was good and very restful.

“Needs a serious overhaul”

Arrived late during the day about 4:00 pm for check in. Waited about 15 minutes for maintenance to call in order to check in. When we arrived at our room we thought it would be better to stay in cave instead. The room had an extreme moldy odor, the sink and tub drains were slow and not working properly. There was old coffee still in the coffee maker. It was obvious that the linens were not changed or any cleaning had been done. Obviously the bats can't keep up with the bugs because there plenty in our room. We slept in our sleeping bags. The only good thing going for this motel is the location it is 7 miles to the Caverns, but for a good night sleep I would recommend staying in Carlsbad 20 miles away.

Fairly dreary rooms. The waterpark was a joke--dirty grounds and water. Restaurants were both bad. Only upside is you are 10 minutes from the caverns. If you stay in Carlsbad, you are nearly 30 minutes from the caverns. It's up to you.

Carlsbad Caverns was the last attraction on our weeklong tour of the southwest with our 3 young children. We had stayed in various hotels along the way, all with their various problems, but sometimes you don't have a lot of options, and the best hotels are not always perfect, as other TripAdvisor reviews will tell you.

We had planned to stay in Carlsbad, but discovered the White's City hotel at the last minute. The clincher for us was the waterpark. As part of the hotel property, they have not only a pool, but a toddler pool with a showering mushroom and a pirate ship with all the usual squirting water. They also had a slide tower with 2 water slides, one enclosed and fast and one open and slower. Wristbands for the water park were included in the price of the room, as was a full breakfast. The kids loved it, especially after a long day of driving! Truthfully, so did I. Unlike waterparks near home, there were no lines. The kids could just go up and down all they wanted.

The room was nothing to get excited about, but it was shelter for the night, and clean. They gave us a quiet corner of the hotel and we were able to load and unload right at the door (very convenient for us). The price of $93 per night seemed reasonable for all it included, and the convenience to Carlsbad Caverns, our primary objective, couldn't be beat. I doubt if any of the other typical chain hotels I saw in Carlsbad would have been appreciably better. And I didn't need any more driving.

The convenience of the hotel directly at the entrace of the park allowed us to let the kids swim in the waterpark, get in early for a good seat for the bat flight, and get up (but not too early) for our free breakfast and get to the park at opening to tour the caverns before heading home.

If you are a hotel snob and picky about how your towels are folded, then stay away. You can commute from a fancy hotel in Albuquerque because you probably won't be satisfied with anything in Carlsbad either. But if you are on a family roadtrip and Carlsbad Caverns is on the agenda or just on the way, this is not a bad place to stay at all.
