“Not the best, not the worst, but they have a water slide!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2011

This is the only motel in Whites City that is only 7 miles outside the park. Everything else is 20 miles away in Carlsbad. This worked great for us because we got in late but were able to catch the bat flight and as tired as we were after driving from San Antonio didn't have a long drive back to our hotel.

The rooms were clean, had bare minimum amenities. No fridge, no microwave. Beds were not terribly uncomfortable. Kind of springy. Other than that we had no issues. The walls are pretty thin so in the morning we could hear our neighbors talking. I would spend ONE night here to see the park, but probably no more than that. The little water park was pretty neat, would probably entertain your kids for hours. And it was sparkling clean in the pool and water park area. It is a little pricey for what they offer, but with no competition I guess you can charge what you want.

When we checked in we were told that the "continental breakfast" is just packaged muffins and juice. We didn't even bother looking at it.

White City itself....SUCKS. They don't sell beer anywhere lol. And the one restaurant is EXTREMELY limited. Everyone is really nice and helpful though. It's just a weird little abandoned town.

It is good enough, the room is huge and CLEAN, though a little dated. We did not find any bugs, roaches, gecos, crocs, etc. The breakfast is small, still Ok for the start, you can eat more elsewhere. The staff is very friendly. There is a decent restaurant in town.
If you are looking for a Ritzy hotel - drive 30-50 miles, and I am sure you will find the right one for you. But if you want to visit Carlsbad Caverns - Oh, they are so amazing!!! - no doubt, stay in THIS Hotel!

This place is just fine. Internet worked fine, slept well, rooms were clean and dark (first floor, facing north). Pool wasn't open yet (not hot enough), but it was fine. I'd be a little bummed at paying $95/room, but they gave us 20% off, which was closer to fair.

Room Tip: Ask for discounts - AAA, seniors, etc.

I tried to convince my boyfriend to stay in Carlsbad (20-30 minutes away from the Caverns) after reading the reviews here, but he insisted that it wouldn't be that bad, and would be worth it for the location, location, location. I'm glad I caved to his masculine wiles! This hotel was a perfectly fine place to stay while visiting Carlsbad Caverns! It was even worth the "I told you so" glance I received as I proclaimed "This place is not infested with human hair and housekeeping incompetence at all!"

The rooms are huge, and all the standard amenities are included. It might not be clean enough to pose as an "after" shot in a Swiffer commercial, sure, but it's hardly a place to be warned away from. Not once was I even afraid of coming into contact with another human's hair or non-functioning electronics! (Even though I totally could've dealt with it if I did.)

As for the location, it's just down the road from the Caverns, which you probably already know if you're looking up hotels in Whites City in the first place. There's only one restaurant in the town (that magically changes from "diner with limited options" for breakfast/lunch to "diner with different limited options in a different section of the building" for dinner). The food is good, though! Better than one would expect from a restaurant in a town with only one restaurant.

There is also a cafeteria at the Caverns' visitors' center that's open during the day. I didn't eat there, but they probably don't have a Ms Pacman arcade machine. The Whites City restaurant totally does.

There were only two small things at the hotel that did not go as smoothly as desired: our wake-up call came 15 minutes late (not a problem, as I'd also set the alarm clock, but others might want to take note so you can also be prepared), and our key cards stopped working on the second day, and we had to have them reactivated. But that only took a few seconds for the girl at the desk to take care of.

We stayed here because we booked a morning tour to Carlsbad Caverns park and wanted to be close. The motel was average and we had no problems with it. The room was quite large, it was clean and the beds were average for a road motel. The breakfast was free but tiny (4oz carton of juice and a 2-inch muffin). The staff seemed friendly, but I was surprised that the receptionist said she did not know if there was a restaurant at the caverns. How could she not know? there isn't anything else in miles and I expect that many people ask that question! When we got there we found a nice restaurant at the national park visitor center.
The motel is in a drab area, dry and dusty, but it was the only choice and we are glad we stayed there.

The location is a great place for people who want to see carlsbad caverns... just a drive up a hill and ur at the caverns but, when u get back to the hotel your staying at ... there is no hot water, there sheets have probably not a good idea if u come in the winter , there is a great pool unless u come on a rainy day (witch i did ) , that's probably the best part of the hotel (the pool) , dirt on the carpet , I did not even want to go into the bathroom

Room Tip: be nice ...manager is rude

The rooms were large and clean and the hotel is close to the park. HOWEVER, maid service was marginal (at best), our shower and whirlpool tub didn't work (but the tub was a bit frightening anyways), the "continental breakfast" consisted of a packaged muffin and tiny plastic cup of OJ, and the ice maker was broken. In addition, the room is fairly pricey.
