“A must do”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

This is a must do when traveling to Capetown or Gansbaai. The Staff at shark lady picked us up from our hotel and dropped us off at our hotel in Cape town. The Staff will brief you on the cage and the sharks and what will happen when you are down there. It is definatly safe and i did not feel in danger at any point. The trip out is short and we saw a shark before we even got to the cage. The have a fish head on rope that they hold in front of the cage you are in and when one is spotted you are told to go DOWN (as in underwater so you can see) they then pull the rope back and the shark comes towards you. The sharks sometimes hit the cage but it makes it more exciting. On return they had fresh home made vegetarian soup with fresh bread waiting for us and out on the boad was fruit and chips. There is also a guy who goes out with you and films and you can buy it for 250 rand.

Make sure you take travel sickness tablets as it can get very bumpy!

“Great experience!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2014

You gotta do this, this is awesome! Very friendly, professional and cool stuff, beautiful breakfast upon arrival, great briefing, nice boat. After we stopped, we saw the first shark. All in all we anchored for about 1.5 hours and were surrounded by sharks all the time.
After return to shore we were given nice, hot, thick soup to warm up.
All in all a once in a lifetime experience with great people!!

“Shark diving”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2014

Booked to go shark cage diving with my husband and 3 children - we weren't that keen but kids really wanted to do it. We arrived late so quickly grabbed some breakfast and listened to safety talk which was very informative. Lance, our guide, was very good and had a great sense of humour. It was only about 15 mins out to where we anchored. We all got ready in our wetsuits and Lance waited until we had a shark circling before putting first group in the water. We got to see 6 different sharks, largest being 3 1/2 m, all coming. Dry close to the cage. Did have one jumps out of water to eat the bait which was fantastic. Definitely recommend it, was very surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did.

“Great experience with Shark Lady Diving Company”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014

We had a great experience with the Shark Lady Diving Company. They were very accommodating - managing our group experience which included children. The crew was professional and fun, appropriately responsive to those on our trip who were having trouble enjoying the experience or were frightened while in the cage.

It can be a long cold day, I wish we had packed more cold weather & dry clothing.

We bought the trip dvd - which was fun and had a lot of shots that we weren't able to take from our point of view.

We used a transportation service, which picked us up at our hotel in Cape Town and drove us to Gansbaai. Transportation was smooth and the driver professional.

“Great experience, quality staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2014

A thorough safety, boat and cage procedures briefing followed a simple but welcome continental breakfast at the centre. Lance, the DiveMaster, is entertaining and keeps everything on a light level, in keeping with the whole day, but it very clear about what you can and can't do. All the staff have not only your safety and enjoyment in mind, but also the safety and welfare of the sharks themselves. We welcomed this approach, and were glad it didn't feel like some kind of amusement park ride - we were visiting wild, unpredictable creatures in their own habitat, and there are rules to be observed.

The boat journey lasted about 20 minutes to the site (not Dyer Island, as the sharks at this time of year are slightly closer to shore), and although the boat was full, it didn't feel overcrowded. We were well aware that this time of year the water is cold and the visibility is 2 - 3 metres at best, so we were very happy with our close encounters for 20 minutes in the cage, and the rest of the time on site was spent looking down on these amazing animals as they patrolled the boat. In all, we clocked 7 separate white sharks, the biggest of which was between 3 and 4 metres long Lance kept up a good commentary and provided lots of interesting facts (and some not so funny jokes), so the environmental and ecological aspects of the sharks interactions with us given a fair hearing, again, most welcome. Light lunch back at the centre completed a very enjoyable experience.

Tip 1: If you know you can get seasick or travel sick even, take a tablet BEFORE you go out on the boat. The tablets are less effective if you take them when you are already sick. We did not get sick, but a few others did, and this was on a near flat calm day.....
Tip 2: Be realistic about this experience. These are wild, unpredictable animals, and the weather plays a huge part in the enjoyment of the day. I think that at this popular time of year for visitors, with the water temperature being so cool, the chances of ANY cage shark dive operator in Gansbaai offering more than one 20 minute experience in the cage per visitor is slim. We hope to come back in the winter when the water is clearer, there are fewer visitors, and more sharks.
