“Two visits, double delight.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

Passing through Gansbaai for whale watching we stopped in for a bite on the day of our arrival as well as on our way back to Cape Town.

The meals were identical. We had the catch of the day, which was Cod. It came with wedge potatoes and a salad or vegetables.

In a world of infusions and such this was a refreshing return to nice fish, pan fried with a minimum of seasoning. Just enough to complement the delicious fresh Cod.

It was perfectly cooked for four meals as my wife and I had the same dish. The portion is quite substantial and will leave nearly all diners satisfied.

Beyond the food: the service is friendly and accommodating. The dining areas both inside and outside were attractive and comfortable.

Nothing astonishing. Just nice food properly prepared and served lovingly in a pleasant environment.

Simple and simply wonderful.

“Wonderful Food and Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

Rosemary's restaurant is a hidden treasure in an off the beaten path location in South Africa. We were not expecting the quality of food and its presentation to be of such high standards in the small town where it is located, and in fact preferred it to the many restaurants that we went to in Franschhoek, an area known for food. The lamb shank, the babotie, and the sago pudding were top notch, and simple things like toasted baguette drizzled with excellent olive oil showed the attention paid to detail.

Equally impressive is the story behind the restaurant. Rosemary, whom we had the privilege to meet, told us that she opened the restaurant 6 years ago without having any experience or training in the food industry. What really touched us was when the waitress very proudly told us that she used to be a cleaner, and now alternates between cooking and serving at the restaurant. Rosemary has given the women who work there skills and a sense of pride, and this shines through and makes the the experience of eating there a special one.

We are "foodies" and have eaten at many fine restaurants in many destinations, and we enjoyed Rosemary's so much that we ate there 3 times. We look forward to returning on our next trip to this very beautiful part of South Africa.
