“OMG! Ring the Bell!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

What an amazing place! What an amazing atmosphere. This is a real throw back in time. Old newspapers on the walls, gramophone, real Sheffield steel knifes and forks. If you cant enjoy this then you simply have no imagination and no personality, unlike the owner. We didn't get her name but she floats through the restaurant in all black and oozes local knowledge and character.

Make sure when you get to the restaurant, don't try to open the front door just ring the bell! Go there and you will understand.

Highly recommended for all with a little imagination and the nostalgic!

Thank you so much for your wonderful comments regarding my Restaurant.
So happy you made mention of the1916 newspaper collaged on the walls which happens to be 98 years old.
The lady dressed in black was myself, the owner. Rosemary.
It seems that you did enjoy your Thyme at Rosemary, and this gives me great pleasure.
Hope you enjoyed your stay here in Gansbaai.

Warmest regards
Rosemary

“Warm and cosy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

On a cold and windy day, we stopped for tea and were captivated by this gracious old house. We were served tea and freshly baked scones in the way they should be served, with elegant china, pots of jam and cream, real linen table napkins and shining silver . The old newspapers on the walls took us back to a very different age. It was a delightful experience.

“Restaurant Gem in Gansbaai”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

We were pleasantly surprised by the fantastic quality of food at Rosemary's! We sat in the beautiful back garden, great ambience with the surrounding flowers and the little koi pond. The kids also loved it! The menu seemed limited, but turned out to be fabulous food. The kabeljou with a good assortment of veggies were succulent and fresh, and the kids even wanted a second portion of calamari. And the deserts...yummy :-). We will most definitely be back. Thank you Rosemary for your hospitality.

“Beautiful and Characterful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

We felt as if we were dining in someone's home - beautiful furnishings and interesting artifacts created a wonderful ambience. The "Doyene of the house", Rosemary, a wonderfully theatrical figure dressed to the T's, did her rounds and entertained the guests, (ourselves and a honeymoon couple). A substantial menu offered mainly traditional South African fare - something for almost anybody I'm sure. Food was prettily presented and the portions were more than adequate. Food was pleasant and very tasty and the service very good. The only criticsm really are the prices - being in the restaurant industry myself, the prices seemed excessive and it was quite obvious the restaurant was targeting the international market. Rosemary did mention that she struggled to get the locals to support her - not surprising considering the prices charged!. Trip advisor ratings did seem to dominate her thinking. Overall we had a super evening and appreciated the personalized tour of the awesome garden and facilities. Thank you Rosemary!

“Lovely quaint eatery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Rosenmary is a classy lady with a lovely historical restaurant, breathing the atmosphere of the early 20th century complete with newspaper from that time as wallpaper.

They serve very typical boere Afrikaans fair like bobotie and amatobredie but for my personal and the english South African tastes ii is way to sweet. Everything has heaps of sugar in it which is typical for Afrikaans food but most international palates better come prepared.
