Off the beaten track - a friend and I stayed here for a night in July 2013 for around R1500, dinner, bed and breakfast. The retreat is a special place, about 16 km off the main road through an exquisite landscape of river and natural forest. One really needs a few days to unwind here and absorb the peace and quiet. Lovely walks around the estate. We stayed in cottage number 8 with 2 bedrooms and a nice big bathroom. Lovely fireplace in main section of cottage. Dinner was very good - venison with veggies and salad, and a lovely flour-free chocolate cake with ice-cream as dessert. Breakfast was plentiful, healthy and full of variety. The owners, Grant and Marie, are charming and go out of their way to welcome and be helpful to guests. Marie runs the place very efficiently and with gusto; one can see the hallmarks of her organizational skill. Environmentally sound soaps and appliances speak of the special care taken by the owners, such a refreshing change from the usual touristic excesses. Would certainly stay here again and explore the pleasures of route 62 more fully.
