“Nice to relax your muscles in the Spa upon return from Kruger to Jo'burg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

Our travel agent booked this B&B on our way back from Kruger National to Johannesburg. Lodge is inspired by British cottages: both the beautiful rose garden and the decoration of the room. Our room was spacious, with a queensize bed. We arrived late and left early. But it was nice to have a massage after all these long Krugerpark hours in our car. I imagine this lodge is conceived for elderly white couples: the husband goes flyfishing and meanwhile his wife lingers in the garden and enjoys the spa ;-)
The owners do not live on the property, the nightwatch was almost deaf, and one of the windows of our bathroom did not lock properly. Yet the neighborhood felt safe.

Old traditional guesthouse which was clean and neat but not 4 star. I wouldn't associate the accommodation with luxury more old style and cosy with a fireplace. Staff were friendly but with one option of their 'famous omlette' as a hot breakfast i would hope everyone felt like an omelette otherwise there would be issues. Buildings looked in need of a bit of talc and our baths enamel was peeling off. I would say 3 star not 4.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2012

We spent two nights at the Highland Rose this week and thought it was very special. There are beautiful gardens, with lots of birdlife. The service was excellent, and the breakfasts probably the best I have had anywhere. The cottage had a lounge with a fireplace and wood and firelighters, a bathroom with underfloor heating - essential as it was very cold - below 0 at night. One small recommendation would be to supply the cottages with a heater in winter - it was freezing when we got up in the morning. The dining room where we had breakfast also had a fireplace - but no fire - just a small fire would have made it so much more cosy and pleasant. Overall, highly recommended - but don't go in the middle of winter!

Room Tip: If you don't want stairs, ask for a single storey cottage.

I visited Highland Rose in Dullstroom for lunch on their beautiful garden facing stoep - delicious Boboti and home made lemonade.

Warm and friendly hospitality and service with cosy accommodation - from honeymoon couples to families with children.
