We've been to Phinda twice, 10 years apart. The first time was expensive but magical and it felt worth every cent. The second time in 2012 was also expensive but not magical because the hotel is 'tired', leaving us feeling that we've been ripped off. Surely if a hotel does not maintain and renew or refresh itself in a 10 year timespan then it does not deserve to maintain a premium pricing policy? I truly hope someone representing management or ownership reads this and does something about it because we would love to go back there as the wildlife experience is superb. If they don't I just cannot see myself going back there for more given all the other options available.

- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Set deep in the heart of a rare and beautiful dry sand forest, the award-winning Forest Lodge fuses architecture and conservation. The lodge was hand built by local artisans, with a minimal footprint on the forest floor – not one tree was felled during construction. An exquisite contradiction, floor-to-ceiling glass walls invite the forest inside, while the dense tree canopy shelters and provides privacy. Floating on stilts above the forest floor while dainty suni graze below, the 16 Zulu Zen suites blend harmoniously into the dappled shade. ... more less
