“Great value, nice bar on site”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2014

Before visiting Tucumcari I researched accommodation on Trip Advisor - hence my choice

Good value room rate for a clean and comfortable room, Mike the host is helpful and personable, excellent parking and only minutes from a supermarket

There is an attractive pool/pool area

In the reception building is an appealing bar area which Mike runs himself - good value pricing and non smoking - so no hazy smoke filled bar. Mike is good for a chat, couldn't have enjoyed my stay more - I would happily return

When you're on Route 66, small independent hotels are definitely the way to go to get the full Route 66 effect! We stayed at Tristar for two nights during Rockabilly on the Route. The room was priced great and clean and spacious. The bar was great and the owner was very friendly. I would highly recommend!

We were driving route66 again and decided to stay a here again. Mike remembered us from 2 years ago. We had a great night at the bar with Mike. The room was clean and comfortable the shower was hot and great water pressure. So do yourself a favour and stay.

We've spent a night in our travel along route 66. The place is within the town. The rooms are very clean, has microwave and frisge, beds are confortable and the owner was very kind. It also has a bar with a pool, which is an extra point. It is an affordable place, and you get a clean and confy place for not too much money. Definitely a good place to stay if you are going to spend a night in Tucumcari.

This is one of the most difficult reviews I have ever written. Each time I wanted to score this a 4 or higher there was something making me want to score it 2 or less so I settled at 3. We ultimately chose this one over some of the other historical hotels because it had a pool for our kids. Upon arriving, the music from the bar was pumping and it was not your typical sports bar tunes. The owner was friendly enough but seemed put out by our arrival even though we had already made a reservation and called ahead to confirm a later arrival. He did allow us to view the room before we made the final decision to stay which was a nice touch. The room was clean and spacious and came with a microwave and refrigerator. It had an old 27 inch tube TV but overall OK. AVOID CHANNEL 44 if traveling with kids or opposed to adult films. This channel is part of the cable package and cannot be blocked. The beds are soft, almost trampolene like, and uncomfortable. The AC is located in an odd place which prevented from effectively cooling right away. The bathroom is old and showed signs of wear but the water pressure and hot water were both excellent. If I ever stay in the area again I will likely choose either the Blue Swallow or the Historic Route 66 Hotel as both were more appealing than this one and we will just forego the pool.

FACTS

1- TRISTAR INN XPRESS is an independently owned property,

meaning not affiliated/associated with any of the known

franchise brands.

2- magicandbird did make a reservation in advance called to

confirm before arriving.

3- Prior to check-in magicandbird asked to see the room and

room was inspected thoroughly by magicandbird, his wife and

2 kids.

3- Yes we do have a channel "44" that often plays adult

movies. It is on the channel line-up list that is inside the

drawer in the room.

3- Channel "44" is blocked on the TV and the only way to

view is if a person, knowingly, purposely, intentionaly

using finger tips pushes 4 and 4 again on TV remote.

Our dilema- Why would a person inspect room prior to

renting, spend night and check-out and then run to TRIP

ADVISOR and post a negative review based on lies, especially

about a TV channel that we know for a fact does not work as

in MR. magicandbird's review."This channel is part of the

cable package and cannot be blocked". That is an outright

LIE and that is a fact.

-Of course there is a good possibility Mr. magicandbird got

caught watching adult channel by his family and he blamed

all on hotel/motel.

- Who does magicandbird represent/work for and what is the

intent here, travelling from place to place inspecting

independent properties and write reviews meant to describe

personal experiences.Really?

We welcome an honest criticism by travellers, as that gives

us an opportunity to make things right, we don't need

inspectors whose job it is to discredit independently owned

and operated businesses hoping to drive business toward some

low class franchise brand that they work for.

I traveled to Tucumcari for the Rockabilly On The Route weekend. I was the cover & centerfold in La Loca Magazine.
We stayed at Tristar because it is right next to the convention center.
Our room was nice, clean & best of all had a mini fridge & Microwave! We were very comfortable & pleased with everything!
It was so nice to have the bar at the hotel, we just walked across the parking lot to have a drink & that was AWESOME! The owner was the sweetest man & made us feel so welcome! He told me he's been working on the bar & dance floor while he showed me around. It is so cool & you just feel right at home while visiting!
I would surely stay here again after such a wonderful experience!
Thank you so much for being so kind <3

Six years ago, I presented a review of the Tristar Inn Express. I still recommend the place. It is well-kept and provides good accommodations at a reasonable price. Rooms are clean and well-furnished. A bar has been added recently and has gotten good reviews from those who have patronized it. Definitely one of Tucumcari's lodging gems.
