“Great, Fun Place to Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

My wife and I stayed here on a trip back from Arizona. Quaint, old fashioned motel on the old Route 66. The owners, Kevin and Nancy Mueller, are great people and gave us a good recommendation for dinner at Del's restaurant. The rooms are small as is the bathroom but it is just fun to stay at a place with so much history. Our bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. We stayed over on a night when the temperature was dropping like a rock and Kevin came over to our room to ask us if we were warm enough. They have a nice web site that shows all their rooms so you can pick which one you like (they are all decorated differently). Give them a try next time you are passing through. P.S. If you pay by cash or traveler's check, you will save about $8 on your total bill!

Room Tip: Check out their website to see what one strikes your fancy.

We were traveling through Tucumcari and I looked online and saw the reviews for hotels and restaurants. Thank goodness for this service. We chose the Blue Swallow because of the reviews. When we pulled up and saw it, we were pleasently surprised. We got a tour of the room and And said yes immediately! It was so clean and charming. Having traveled the 66 all of our lives, we were happy to find this place. It is sad that Tucumcari is so boarded up but thank goodness for this gem! We walked a couple of blocks and ate a wonderful dinner at Dels.
The owners truely love this place and its history. They were wonderful to chat with. The room was spotless, the beds were so comfortable and the sheets were awesome! Would definately stay here again! So, so happy!!

Our first and proper Route 66 motel experience and we loved it. Kevin and Nancy Mueller run an excellent service. Friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. Even a decent mug of good old PG Tips was on hand to make us feel at home. Would not hesitate to re commend.

We booked this motel as part of our retrace of Rte 66 that we originally took in 1969.(we still have that Camaro) Lot has changed but you can't be dissatisfied with this gem. We had lunch at Midpoint Cafe in Adrian, Tx. When its owner found out we were staying at the Blue Swallow, asked us to deliver a piece of pie to his friends, the owners. We stayed in Room #1, which does show the neon lights even from bed. The road noise was a bit loud, but acceptable considering its age. Following thru with tradition, we had dinner at Del's. You can't be young again but you sure can relive the past.

Room Tip: Their website has good description of all the rooms.

We were on the "Circle of Enchantment" motorcycle tour of New Mexico, and got in towards dusk - the perfect time to arrive on the neon mainstreet of Tucumcari. The folks at the Blue Swallow were wonderful - very supportive of motorcycle riders, and welcoming after a long day on the road. The office manager cat Max was also great ambassador. It really is like time travel - one of the few opportunities for a glimpse at the original Route 66. Folks were sitting outside their rooms, enjoying the ambience. Super friendly, good coffee in the morning - I've stayed at other places on that strip, and they just don't compare. But book early - I think they are usually fully occupied by sunset....

We stayed here on a Saturday night in April. We got there in the daytime so didn't get the full effect of the neon at first. That came later...and WOW.
Very much enjoyed the friendly hosts (including the gorgeous dogs).
One unique thing for us was the tour of the room BEFORE we signed in...as though to give us a chance to back out if we wanted to! Well, we didn't want to. We loved it.

We had lots of questions for Nancy about our travel on down the road and time changes and all that. She was very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, Kevin was gone and we never met him.

We requested and got a pet-free room...not that we don't love pets...we just don't like to sleep with pets we don't know! ☺
I especially loved the book in the room of the history of the place. So interesting and fun.
The bed was deliciously comfy...the best of our entire 4000-mile trip.

Thank you, Blue Swallow Motel. This lived up to our dreams.

We stayed here while traveling cross-country. Don't know what more can be added to all the reviews. The motel is charming, the owners are delightful, the bed was VERY comfortable. If you want to experience a piece of history and feel warm and comfortable, this is the place.
