“Great Classic '60s Motel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2014

The rooms were clean and had a great 1960's style. Friendly staff. The rates are about half what you would expect to pay for a hotel, but be aware that this is a very basic motel. No pool, exercise room, in room refrigerator, or coffee pot. So if you are happy with a nice room with a cool style for a great price, and don't need or use all those extras, you will like this place as much as we did.

This was a cool spot on Route 66. Lots of retro roadside stuff on this particular strip. We stopped here after an 18+ hour drive and needed rest. It's definitely one of the best options on the route and probably the only pet friendly one at a fair price. I felt safe as all of the other guests were pleasant travelers. The man and woman working there (the owners?) were very friendly. The shower had great pressure and lots of hot water. The beds aren't luxurious but they're a good place to rest your head after a long drive. My only complaint is that I am very sensitive to smells and the room did smell stuffy and like pets to me when we walked in. No one else noticed or complained though. The attached coffee shop makes a great latte, so dip in there for a drink before you head back out on the road. Good value all around.

Traveling from Georgia to Gallup nm we decided to stop in tucumcari for the night. Looking on trip advisor I saw the usual chains but traveling with two dogs did not want to pay high pet fees especially since the dogs are cleaner than most kids, so chose this hotel. Great choice. Friendly owners, neat retro rooms, hair dryer on request and coke products. Will stay again in travels as room was clean and environment was friendly.

We called from the road made a reservarion but arrived late after the normal checkin time of 12 midnite the owners were very accommodating... and we enjoyed our stay... do yourself a favor and stay I would support them any day for some nostalgia... class and history over the McHotel chains along the hwy any day. And the prices are unbeatable

This was recommended by one of our guidebooks--and they were totally right! Friendly staff (the owner even froze our ice containers overnight so we'd have them ready for our cooler!), pet friendly. (The night of our stay, we had Barney, the Great Dane, next door, 3 cats in another room, 3 dogs in another--that I know of.)

Spotlessly clean, comfortable beds, very quiet--did not hear a peep from any of the guests after we went to bed. Another big plus--it's the type of place I'd recommend to any other female travelers as being a great choice--we sat outside our door and enjoyed the breeze and view of the park across the street in complete comfort.

My husband and I stayed here for a night last weekend during Rockabilly on the Route, and were very pleased with our stay. Check-in and check-out went smoothly. The owner and front desk clerk were very friendly. I even saw the owner later that night at the rockabilly show and she remembered my name. The rooms were spacious, very clean and comfortable. I love how they have kept the retro feel alive with the decor! The room also had a mini refrigerator and microwave, which is always nice to have. We found a bunch of extra blankets and pillows in one of the cabinets, too. I'd definitely stay here again!

What a sweet sweet spot, and a complete surprise. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and very spacious. With floor-to-ceiling windows, it was bright and welcoming and thoroughly cool in a 1950's/1960's way. Nothing fancy about it, but totally wonderful. They even have a good espresso café on site! What a find! The owner/operator was so gracious and helpful, and the accommodations so perfect (and inexpensive) I decided to stay a second night.

Everyone who travels Route 66 is looking for charming reflections of the past. The Historic Route 66 Motel has it, with wi-fi and lattés. I only found it because the iconic Blue Swallow Motel was full and its owner suggested this as an alternative. This will now be my go-to Tucumcari destination. While it lacks the neon of the Blue Swallow, it has all the charm at 1/3 the price.

I only wish I could have stayed longer! I look forward to more stays at the Historic Route 66 Motel.

The Historic Route 66 Motel is a mid-century modern hotel that is similar in style and atmosphere to hotels and homes designed by Mies van der Rohe, Joseph Eichler, and Oscar Niemeyer. Built in 1963, both the exterior and interior is more than a little reminiscent of "California Modern", a style that was so popular until the latter sixties. The Motel also includes a popular European Style Espresso Bar on the west wing where guests receive a 10% discount on all items and an exterior corridor, where guests can park directly, or nearly directly, in front of their rooms.
