“Wonderful Breakfasts and Desserts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2008

Seven of our family (cousins and spouses) recently spent three nights here and really had a great time! Our rooms were beautifully decorated and very comfortable, the breakfasts and desserts were delicious, the staff very friendly, and the courtyard was a great place to get together - we even had a fireside concert complete with our own musician one evening. The owners were there every morning helping out with breakfasts and visiting with the guests. The town and surrounding area is very beautiful and we all enjoyed our trip very much. We came from Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Colorado and had a great time in Taos!

This is an amazing place that is more a small inn than a B & B – over 30 rooms located within several buildings. Each room is different, and they come in all price ranges and configurations. Comfortable beds, big bathroom, and extra touches such as a refrigerator in the room (or a full kitchenette in the larger suites). Afternoon tea includes a wonderful assortment of home-baked treats. Breakfast is served in a beautiful dining room, and includes homemade muffins, granola, fruit, yogurt, and choice of hot entrees. The owners and their staff are very gracious and hospitable. The grounds are wonderful, and the location can’t be beat - steps away from the best restaurants and shops in Taos. Plenty of parking too! Can’t wait to come back!

  • Liked — decor, location, gracious hosts, delicious food
  • Disliked — No wireless, but it is available in the nice coffee shop right across the street

Casa Benavides B&B is located near the main shopping and art gallery areas of Taos. The property consists of a group of several homes that have been converted into sleeping quarters. Each of the rooms is quite different, and they are priced accordingly. This is not a slick hotel with numerous rooms, all exactly the same. The bed was comfortable, and the facility was quite clean and well-maintained. Casa Benavides is one of only a few B&Bs that are close to the central plaza.

The breakfast, which is included, was large and quite good. We will likely be staying there on our next Taos trip.

Very nice, would stay there again. Location is perfect, one block off the plaza (southeast on Kit Carson), but feels quiet and secluded. The full breakfasts are wonderful -- great pastries, granola, yogurt, fresh fruit, and choice of baked Mexican egg casserole, waffles, or French toast, or even made-to-order eggs if you prefer. The place is aging and in need of updating, and the owners are elderly, so it feels a little like it’s in its twilight years and may not be around much longer without a freshening. But for now, it seems like the best bargain in Taos.

  • Liked — Location, breakfasts, large rooms
  • Disliked — Aging, a little run down, very difficult to cool room

Casa Benavides is huge, it is more like staying at an inn then at an old fashioned B&B, as the rooms all have access from the outside with their own entries. You do still get to dine in a public dining room but the room is so large that you can also sit alone or sit out on the patio.

The rooms are excellent with comfy mattresses and linens. They have lots of room choices for every budget and even the smallest $89 a night room is comfy and well decorated. They have rooms in the old part of the B&B, overlooking patios and they have room across the street. They also have a large hot tub, several patios, and plenty of indoor seating in the dining room, halls, or in their great room/solarium.

Breakfast was served in the large dining room which is open to a large patio. There are lots of tables in the dining area so you can dine with a group or alone. They serve breakfast for a couple of hours so you have plenty of time. They have several servers and start you off with HOMEMADE dried fruit granola, milk, yogurt, fruit, and muffins or rolls. Also fresh, hot coffee, tea, juice, etc... THEN they come around and ask you what you would like for breakfast (breakfast #2?) and offer green chile and eggs or waffles or whatever you prefer! In the afternoon they have a tea time with juice and tea service and TONS of desserts, cakes, cookies set out. I love this place!

The location is perfect, down the street from Graham's Grill, Eske's Pub, and Doc Martins. We were able go out for drinks and music every night during the weekend (even Sunday) and walk back to the B&B late. If you are a mountain biker the bike shop is also just around the corner.

LOVE, LOVE this place. We are only in our 20s and while we were the youngest people staying there, we met a lot of nice, friendly couples in their early 40s. We stayed in the Granada Red Room, one of the cheapest room they have and it was great! Can't beat downtown plaza in Taos for only $89 a night including homemade breakfast! Only downside, they don't allow dogs and not sure about kids because we didn't see any so you'll have to ask.

  • Liked — Location/Food
  • Disliked — No internet access in rooms, (but they had it down stairs)

The first night my wife and I arrived in Taos, we stayed at the El Monte Sagrado, a lavish resort about two blocks from Casa Benavides. The El Monte was beautiful and a good experience, but questionably worth the $400 I paid for the room. The following night, we decided to check our options and thought we'd try Casa Benavides. Although Benavides is not as chic or modern, we had such a awesome experience. The staff at Casa Benavides was extremely friendly, the food was super, and the decor was great. Casa Benavides was such a genuine experience! Of our entire honeymoon, we had the best time in Taos at Casa Benavides.

We will never return to Taos without staying at the Casa Benavides. The Casa is beautifully decorated, spotless, and centrally located for those opting to be within walking distance to the Plaza area. Our room, the Mesa Verde, offered beautiful views of the mountains from three windows. Furniture was hand carved and truly lovely. We only wish we had more time to stay there. We found the food scrumptious at breakfast and at tea. If you are looking for a quiet, comfortable, welcoming place to stay, look no further than the Casa Benavides.
