“Beautiful property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

We enjoyed this lovely property in Taos. Our room was really nice--well appointed and the bathroom was large and spa-worthy. The folks at the front desk were very nice and really helpful. However, there is a considerable charge to park in the large parking lot which is rather silly. The parking lot attendants directed us to park as far away from our room as possible but did not offer us any help. Use of the computers in the business center was free which I really appreciate, but there were connectivity issues with both the internet and the printer. Other than these two small things our stay was a delight. It really made our stay in Taos special.

But a gem will last you a lifetime. We stayed one night in Taos on our way to Santa Fe and then west. Hotel is a gem and all you read on TA about the grounds being beautiful is certainly accurate. It's a splurge, but I thought good value for the pricing. Best option for me is they offer shuttle service into town, so I enjoyed a cocktail in the bar before dinner, and then wine with a great meal and shuttle service back to the hotel...no waiting, no hassle. Great guest service from the front desk staff and the bellmen/valets...We had the kama sutra suite and it was spacious, lovely and quiet. Not sure there were any other guests close to us, but if so, we didn't see or hear them. The complaints I read on here about the property are not consistent with our experience.
We did enjoy breakfast on site the morning we departed and thought it was good. Definitely a luxury experience and certainly there are less costly alternatives. But for a special occasion or a splurge, or if you're just well heeled and can afford first class travel, I can't imagine finding a better option in Taos.

We were surprised over and over again as we experienced this very special Marriott property. The grounds were serene, with fabulous views of the surrounding mountain range. We had an upper flow with a balcony that afforded views while we enjoyed the quiet and serenity. Our room was "ranch style", complete with antler light fixtures, and cow hide on the armoires and chairs. The spacious tub had a curtain which opened up so you could look out the sliding door to the beautiful view outside. My only complaint was the rain shower-where you can't get it powerful enough to get the soap out of your hair! All other details were attended to beautifully. The service was great-from our first valet to the people who opened doors for us. I have to say the front desk people need to be a bit sharper on restaurant recommendations, but maybe just more experience. The continental breakfast that was given to us for "free" as platinum Marriott members, was very substantial and served at your table in the atrium. There was a wedding that weekend, but we hardly heard the guests except when they went back to their rooms around 1 am, but no complaints. We will go back again, for sure.

Room Tip: I don't think you need to upgrade when the regular rooms are this nice. I would ask for an uppe...

The first thing we noticed was how beautiful the grounds were. The pictures are nice, but to see it person is to really appreciate how magical El Monte is. If you have nothing to do, you can do a lot worse than just walking around the grounds. The only downside to this Taos paradise is that everyone wants to get married here and the wedding parties can be a little chaotic.

The staff is top notch. They are friendly and eager to accomodate any request. One of the best hotels staffs I've come across. Amazing customer service. We had a few issues come up, and all were resolved quickly and too our satisfaction.

The Living Spa is not to be missed. My wife and are spa enuthusiasts and this is one of the best spas we have ever been too. It ranks up there without favorite spas (Ritz in Dallas, and Caesars). The treatments were wonderful and Ellen, Melissa, Athena, Heidi, and Lauren were great.

I don't feel a review is real without a few complaints.
1. My wife has limited mobility and requires the use of a wheelchair. None of the doors had a button to open them for wheelchair access. It was difficult getting in and out of some areas and I would usually just ram a door open with my rear and going in backwards with the chair.
2. The bathtub is awesome, but when you turn the jets on water gets everywhere. I know, minor gripe, but still.
3. I'm out of stuff. This place is a paradise, just book it and have a great time.

just enjoyed one night at this luxury hotel as on the way from Santa Fe to Denver. We were fortunate to be upgraded to the Egypt room which we enjoyed very much. Had everything we needed and more. Bed was large and very comfortable, as was the bathroom. Spacious room, fire was very attractive and effective as it became cool in the evening. Staff were terrific, slick and impressive, always knowing who we were etc, made us feel very welcome. I can't comment on the food as we ate out in the evening and left very early the next day without breakfast, but the dining room looked splendid and there seemed a very helpful attitude on the menus with regard to special diets (We are vegetarian). Wish we'd been able to stay longer!

Room and grounds were nice. Only down side of room was that yesterday's soap was found on the bottom of the shower floor.

Stayed in a mountain room, beautifully decorated, air conditioning was excellent.

Front Desk Clerk snooty and condescending. Yuck!
Bell Captain a bit put out.

Whatever you do, don't leave anything behind, with your near $200 a room night it's not their courtesy to pop a low weight item in the mail. THEY MUST SEND FEDEX EXPRESS! No exceptions, didn't return calls. Very difficult staff to work with.

The property was great, the people stunk.

There was a night desk clerk that was very nice. He graciously moved our room when a pack of kids moved in next door. We slept great in the room with quiet neighbord.

One of the most beautiful of all the Marriott's we have stayed in...2 days there and we did not want to leave "Premium Suite #29". Very clean rooms & meticulous grounds. Caring & pleasant staff. Easy 5 minute walk into town. Loved the privacy & romantic feeling of this unit with it's working gas fireplace & lovely back patio complete with pear trees!! You will not be disappointed with your stay here :)
