“A Hidden Treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2011

My new favorite weekend getaway location! What a fantastic resort with a staff that is truly there to please. A few things about this resort that others have not said. The fitness center and pool are amazing. If you want to run outside of the property here is a great 6 mile run. Exit the hotel turning right towards the plaza. At the main street turn right and stay on the left side of the street. Run until you reach the Overland Sheep Store in El Prado turn around and head back the same way. I love to run in new locations and this by far was one of my favorites. The Themed rooms are well decorated and have plenty of space. We sayed in one of the Native American rooms. The view of the pond and waterfall were amazing. We slept with the door open to hear the water. If you like to play pool they have a library/game room up stairs with pool table. It's a bit hidden so make sure you go up stairs. Take some extra $ for the gift shop. Really nice art and jewlery that you can be confident is authentic and not a replica or fake from China. (This happens a lot in New Mexico) Be careful if a price seems to good to be true it probably is a fake. We had the privledge of meeting the new Rest Mgr on his first Day and the Executive Housekeeper from Seattle. I can't remember either name but they both were so nice and such a pleasure to talk to.
The last item that was so unique is the FREE shuttle to the plaza. Its on demand so they will take and pick you up whenever you want. They even dropped off and picked us up at a location other than the square. Wow that is service. I highly recommend the El Monte Segrado if you will be in Taos! This resort will not dissapoint you.

Room Tip: Themed Suites-especially the Native American with a view of the ponds and Courtyard.

My wife and I spent a night here on our way thru Taos this month. It was a magnificent experience! The property was beyond description, and far exceeded our expectations, and has to be the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at and I've stayed at some very nice ones over the years.. The staff was friendly and helpful.

We stayed for three nights, visiting Taos for the first time. This is a beautiful property, well appointed, and within a short walk or drive from the plaza. The room was large, luxurious, with walk-in shower, huge soaking tub, and all the amenities. We were staying on Marriott Reward Points, so we didn't expect the best of all rooms. Still, it was very nice, with a view of the woods. We did not use the Spa facility but it looked great. Also an excellent, fully appointed fitness facility and indoor pool. Unique bar and very nice restaurant. Breakfasts were great; dinners were fine, but not exceptional. Staff were great. All in all a great place. I would highly recommend for a romantic get-away.

Room Tip: Ask for a standard room with a view of the lawn area and the moose statue, unless you are getting on...

This place is phenomenal! My husband and I have stayed at this hotel twice and it is by far the nicest place to stay in Taos! Beautiful grounds, a wonderful spa, and the Anaconda Bar is something everyone should visit! Upon your arrival, everyone makes it a point to learn your name (and they remember it!). Beautiful flower arrangements throughout the hotel and the courtyard area is simply breathtaking. I want to go back NOW!!

Room Tip: All the room types are great. The casitas seem to be a LITTLE older, but they are very nice too.

I travel 100 nights a year for business and personal and spent many years in the hospitality industry so I am very cognizant of positive guest experiences and hold hotels and restaurants to high standards.

That said, I have to admit that I was concerned about some of the negative service related reviews I read on this site regarding this hotel. We just stayed there last Friday and Saturday and found the staff to be very hospitable and friendly. The room was great and no issues with the cleanliness.

Perhaps management got rid of the bad apples that caused the negative reviews and I would recommend this hotel.

We have stayed here several times in the past and have always enjoyed it. It still has beautiful, tranquil grounds and rooms. Although the staff was very friendly, the service has declined from previous visits. We booked a premium suite (the most expensive offered) and it was very nice. No one offered to show us were our suite was other than to tell us it was on the other side of the property. We walked around in the rain looking for several minutes before we could find the suite. In the past we were escorted to our rooms and oriented by staff. In previous suites there had been an iPod docking stereo available, but not in the Egypt suite were we stayed. The clock was flashing. I don’t mind setting the clock, but would expect more in a premium suite. We called and asked if an iPod docking radio was available but were told that it depends on the room that you are in. We were out of the room from about 8 AM until around 4 PM on a Saturday. The room had not yet been cleaned when we returned. We had to call and ask to have the room cleaned. We still like this property, but for the money, we will explore other options.

We appreciate you taking the time to review your visit to El Monte Sagrado. While you enjoyed the grounds and your suite, we do apologize the service failed to meet your expectations as well as our standards. Please know your comments have been shared with the appropriate department heads for improvement. We would love to see you again when you are in Taos.
