“Yes and No”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2009

Complicated dining experience.
Lost our reservation. Seated at less than ideal table (wobbly.) Understaffed. Drove me crazy that wait staff would fly by and snatch bottles off the table, or pour water as hurriedly as possible.
Interior decor charming. Wouldn't recommend the outdoor seating area. Nice ambience.

Odd beer/wine/sherry selection.

Couldn't get kitchen to split entree because of the way it would look on the plate. Waiter nicely finessed that problem. Lovely cornbread muffins. Nice trout salad. Nicely prepared trout in cornhusks with fritter.

Food was good and the ambience was nice. Service was overburdened, resulting in a hasty, rushed experience. Would try it again, preferably not on a Saturday night.

“Fell in love again at The Love Apple”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2009

It was our 2 year anniversary. So we were teetering on "will it be great, or will it suck". Well, it was the best food in Taos, server was amazing, the atmosphere is amazing, and if you stay to the menu, the prices are amazing. (We ordered the specials and the price jumped, but hey that's why they are, special). Will be back the next time we're in Taos.

“Charming ambience, standard fare”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2009

The ambience of this quaint little restaurant could not be more perfect. Unfourtunately, this restaurant missess the basics in its attempt to incoprporate New Mexican flavors. At first blush the menu seems exquisite, unfortunately the ideas are not properly translated in the kitchen. The cocunut-beet salad's combination of shredded jicama, beets, and fresh cocunut with basil and cashews sounds divine. Unfortunately, these very subtle flavors seem discordant and wanting of a light sauce to unify them. The Love Apple's translation of New Mexican posole is titilating. Unfortunately, it appears that the kitchen was unable to master the basic recipe and delivered a flat uninteresting soup that forgot about New Mexico's wonderful chile's. The tacos made from homemade tortilla's also sounded promising, but sadly lacked richness. Despite the moderate prices, we came to this restaurant seeking inspriation and mastery of the New Mexican flavor. We unfortunately, left feeling like we should have visited Orlando's down the street.

“TOP FIVE ANYWHERE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2009

Napa can have the French Laundry or Cyrus. Paris can have the Rue du Balzac. Santa Fe can have its attitude. If you are not a foodie, go to Apple Tree or whatever. But if you will appreciate simple, complex food in a zen-like evolved adobe chapel., tippy-toe to Love Apple and despite the temptation of the blue corn bread muffins, save room for the Buttermilk Panne Cotta with apricot sauce. If I did not wake up tomorrow, having tasted that, i'm fine with it. The pinon fires out front to stave off the chill of the Taos night were just the perfect beginning and end to the evening.

“Best restaurant in Taos”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2009

Great food, great service. Waitress attention to detail and anticipated our every need. We were not familiar with the wine list (mostly from Spain) so our waitress asked which we preferred, white or red? I like reds (cab), my wife, whites. She suggested offering us several samples of their most poplar selections...When is the last time a restaurant did this for you? .....what else can be said. I did find the wine list a little lacking on variety..No California offerings...but I think that was by intent...The seating is a "little up close and personal"...as a matter of fact we met the couple sitting at the table next to us and had a great conversation...they were locals and we were tourists...and to that point..we were the only tourist in the restaurant...what's that tell you!
This restaurant does not advertise (they don't need too!) It was a Saturday night and the place was packed and everyone seem to know each other..Locals.

Lastly, the prices were very, very reasonable.

A truly great meal with, and as I've said impeccable service!
Don't miss this one when in Taos..
