“Excellent Place to Hear Indie Music Acts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013

Our room was overall nice for a historical hotel though shower had very weak flow. No coffee in room but excellent coffee in lobby. Good housekeeping. Excellent folk rock band from Denver - The Belle Jar- was performing that night in Adobe Bar - Lively crowd and not that loud- Bar closes at 1030 and music done by 10 so was quite family friendly. Would stay there again and take in the music scene again

We chose the Historic Taos Inn for the positive reviews and its proximity to the Old Plaza in Taos. Our room in Helen House was tastefully appointed and comfortable, but lacking in amenities and space for the price. The bathroom lacked hooks for clothing and towels and there was little space for toiletries.

We arrived late in Taos, but did not have enough space to comfortably eat in the room and order room service as we would have liked. Dinner both nights was hit or miss - wonderful watermelon gazpacho and grilled pork, tasteless ribs; and it's nice to have a salad with fresh greens, but a little tomato, onion and pepper wouldn't hurt, either.

We paid more for this room than than for 4 star hotels in Albuquerque and Santa Fe with full breakfast included(not so at the Historic Taos Inn), which makes one question the value of this particular hotel. It was fine, not special and too much money for services received.

Fortunately, it got very cold tha night. Otherwise, we would have had diners eating, talking and drinking just inches from our bedroom window. The much vaunted bar is very small and constantly overcrowded. Not a good value for the money,

Room Tip: You'll have to fork over the bigger bucks for the rooms off the rear courtyard to stay here.

The building is interesting, the staff is friendly, the food in the restaurant is good, the music is OK. ON THE OTHER HAND, the rooms are terrible: the sheets on the bed were left over from the previous guest (the "sleep wrinkles" were obvious); the doors and windows allow every bit of noise into the room, from inside and outside the hotel; the carpet is torn and dirty and the blinds offer little to no darkness in the room. Definitely do not recommend this place to stay.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel.

We love staying at The HIstoric Taos Inn. We especially enjoy the upstairs rooms in the old original part of the inn. The night we were there a local duo was playing in the Adobe Bar. They played some numbers from their new cd. Loads of their friends and family members attended the party and it was such fun to see the town in support of their locals musicians. The only disappointment for us is that the Doc Martin restaurant in closed for breakfast and lunch during the week now. I really missed by Kit Carson breakfast.

Central location. Nice rooms. Clean and comfortable. Staff at front desk seemed annoyed to have to deal with us at checkin. All other staff very helpful. Lunch at Doc Martin's was very good. Did not care for the breakfast offerings in the hotel. Would definitely stay there again when in Taos.

I chose this property as I wanted something cultural not a motor lodge. It seemed convenient but I did not realize that Taos was so spread out. We were able to select our own room at time of booking so we cannot complain but glad we did go to an exterior location as the nightly music would have been an inconvenience in the main building. My husband thought we were in a "hobbit" room but it was quiet and cozy with a fireplace. The staff at front desk were not friendly, never acknowledging us as we entered or exit except for check in and check out. Water pressure was an issue but then we saw a notice that the day we were checking out the water was to be turned off for a period of time so perhaps this was being remedied. Ate in the Adobe Bar with food from Doc Martins and it was fine.

Room Tip: No room has a view so go to middle or back of property if you want quiet.
