“Romantic inn with delicious green chili”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2012

We stayed in one of the smallest rooms there, a double bed in sandoval house, room 201. The room was rustic eclectic in its decor, not my style but its style is well suited to the region. Their toiletries are fantastic, I am very picky, hardly ever open what they provide and use my own, but I took their soaps with me. The cable reception was spotty, there's no wired or wireless internet in the Sandoval house, information that I could have used but would have made little difference. We ordered room service and it was difficult to find a place to put it! The rooms can be noisy at moments. Overall, great service in a charming room which was relatively clean with a decent bed, a wonderful restaurant and an excellent location.

The Taos Inn seems to rest on it's laurels...great location and good food in the restaurant. But no little touches one expects from an "Inn". When we booked the room we were not informed that we would be in a handicapped room, with a funky bathroom. Scalding water in the shower could have been a disaster for someone unable to move quickly. Reported a blown fuse and it took 3 calls and 2 hours to get them to flip the breaker switch. Management needs to understand that travelers expect service for their dollars spent.

We were in Taos for the Wool Festival. Originally, we tried to book a room at Casa Gallina, an awesome b&b about a mile or so south of the center of Taos. It's a wonderful place to stay, check it out if you are heading to Taos. I'd write a review but we stayed there in 2006. Alas, there were no rooms available at Casa Gallina. Sad trombones.

With our options running out I booked at the Taos Inn, $100/night for a room with a queen bed. Frankly, I didn't have high expectations considering the price we were paying and the location of the hotel. And, it's all about expectation, isn't it?

The room was dark and small and carried that nostalgic whiff of old hotel carpet and aging everything. The only thing missing was a touch of musty and you'd think you were in grandma's house circa 1968. Plus, we didn't get a queen bed, we got a double. And, the bed was springy and uncomfortable and the pillows were thin.

But, the Taos Inn is within walking distance to everything, including the park where the Wool Festival was being held. Doc Martin's, the restaurant, serves up good food, so that's a plus.

Frankly, I don't think we'll stay here again because we were spoiled with Casa Gallina and will try our best to book there again. But, if you don't care about being in what is effectively an old Days Inn or Motel 8 in the middle of the action, then this is the place for you. If we had paid more than $100/night for our room, I probably would have been more upset with the condition of the place. However, I thought it was a good value considering the location.

Stayed here for one night on our NM trip. Came up from Sante Fe. Pulling up to the Inn is nice and it seemed rather pleasant. Check-in was easy. Gave us a room on the 2nd floor. Expecting something rather special, well...it turned out to be a motel room with 2 double beds, with cheap carpeting, paper thin walls, creepy bathroom...cheap, cheap, cheap.
We were here for only one night, so be it as it was.

Nice lobby and a wonderful front porch with rockers & end tables. You could get cocktails served there...it was VERY lovley. A++. A short drive into town and that was nice too. Did not have any food at the Inn..only the cocktails on the front porch.

All in all, we would not stay here in the future.

Room Tip: See your room before you say OK.

My husband and I decided to make a last minute ski trip to Taos. Just the two of us, no kids. I had read good things about the Taos Inn on both trip advisor and National Geographic. So we booked through the hotel for over $200 a night. Sadly, we were both very dissapointed. The major problem we had was noise, and lots of it. Our room (103) is situated behind the bar area and restaurant. We KNEW that we would hear the music nightly until around 10 p.m. That was NOT a problem. The music was quite good. The major noise problem we had came through our back window, which was not sealed. There was a walkway leading from the parking lot, past our room, to the back door of the inn. Apparently, everyone uses that door. The first night people banged on our window. Mangement did ask them to leave, but they came back. There is also a connecting door in room 103. The same night, room 102 had some things happening that I can not share on trip advisor. We heard it all loud and clear. We told management and they gave us some free drink coupons. My husband wanted to change hotels, but the holiday policy was no refunds. The following nights were followed by the same problems. You can hear people enter the back door, talk and carry on, and then slam the door. For over $200 a night, the Taos Inn should be aware of this problem. My suggestion is to seal the window, put a nice sign out back that says "Guest rooms. Quite please." or have some security.
Yes, the location is great for shopping and being in the center of town. The nightly music was great. The food at Doc Martins was excellent. But when we go back to Taos, I will only visit the restaurant and bar. NOT the hotel.

Room Tip: Do not stay in the rooms located in the front area of the inn. Room 103, 102, etc.

My family stayed here for 4 nights in Christmas. The room has it's charm, but definitely did not worth the $200 we paid. The bed was so uncomfortable, if it was not because we were so tired from the all day activities we had. I hardly can fall asleep on that bed. Location was great, it's easy walk to the Bent's street with many shops and restaurants. But I do not understand the rave about Doc Martin's restaurant. We had our Christmas day dinner there. The set menu was not spectacular. The taste can't even come close to Graham's which is across the street from it! over all the staffs were friendly and helpful. But i will not stay in here again.

This is our favorite place to stay in Taos. It's pricey, but my husband and I have never paid full price. We usually come in the afternoon or evening of our first night's stay and get a great discount for booking last-minute. We love the location, the history, and the food. We always get a room with a cozy fireplace and end up spending a lot of time in the lobby listening to live music, in the bar for happy hour, or at Doc Martin's for breakfast or dinner--and everything conveniently goes on our room tab.

The Taos plaza and abundant art galleries, shops, and restaurants are next door or just across the street. We always have a fantastic time when we stay at the Taos Inn.

Room Tip: The courtyard rooms are especially nice, but any of the rooms with fireplaces are wonderful for a ch...
