“Beautiful stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

Myself and my wife spent a weekend at the El Pueblo lodge in mid October and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Old Pueblo style with all of the modern amenities, including a 40 inch TV with regular TV, better than just a regular hotel TV. The new beds come from the same manufacturer as the Westin Heavenly Bed and boy can you tell it! The continental breakfast was very good and the staff were extremely friendly. The best thing about staying here is that you can walk easily to all of old Taos. Definitely make a trip to the Taos Ale House across the street! We will definitely return!

I stayed here on a road trip from Austin to Sedona via Taos. I chose this hotel because of the reviews here and the price. It is a motel; I expected something fancier and feared I'd be disappointed. Far from it!! The space was so cozy, the bathroom was pretty, and the bed was (by far) the most comfortable bed I slept during the entire trip. My plan was to go explore Taos but I enjoyed the room so much, I stayed in and watched movies. There were many channels to choose from. That night was one wonderfully restful and breakfast/writing on the patio was a great start to another long day of driving. The walls are a bit thin but my neighbors weren't loud, so it worked out fine.

The lodge is a bit older property that some would avoid for fear the rooms weren't up to today's standards. Quite the opposite! The rooms are clean, nicely decorated and have new comfortable beds. For $120 the price is a good value as the room includes a fireplace, firewood and breakfast. Plenty of parking and close enough to downtown that you won't have to repack your car.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a fireplace.

What a lovely and charming hotel. Located on the north side of town it was close to places to eat. Not far away is the post office & the Taos Pueblo which is a World Heritage Site. When we arrived there were fresh baked cookies. We had a cup of tea and a cookie before we went to our room. The office is in a very old building that has little nooks and crannies for seating which gives you some privacy. You can also sit outside under a porch or sit outside in other areas –there are small & larger gathering places. A eclectic mix of furniture. I loved it. I was told that the two best rooms are 401 & 406. We had 401. It is located towards the back of the complex - parking is near the room. When we walked in to our room we could not believe how lucky we were to have such a nice room. It was so big we thought that perhaps we should sell our house and just live here! It had a veranda out the front with a door and a big window. The back is where we came in and that had a porch also and a window for cross ventilation. It had a King size bed with beautiful new linens - no bedspread, thank goodness! The bed slept great. The room had a fireplace, couch, coffee table, desk, new TV. Frig and microwave. Really nice bathroom and shower that had good pressure and a fan that actually worked! The sink was very beautiful and very southwest. Free WiFi that had a password. I appreciated that! After we checked in we went next door to eat dinner at the Dragon Fly Café. They have very good food.

Breakfast was great. Again - the seating is so much fun. There are lots of places to sit. We choose a little sun porch that was so charming. I was told the original owner sat here in the mornings (1800's). There was very lovely lady who worked there, & was busy making sure everyone had what they needed to eat. She was just so friendly. It was like you have known her for years. There was a fresh fruit salad that was out of this world good & lots of other choices also.

If Tripadvisor would allow people to give more than 5 stars - for extra special places - I would give extra stars to this place. What is special about El Pueblo Lodge is it is locally owned and very unique. That is what I expect from Taos. It had a true flavor of the town.

We only stayed one night - but for sure we will be back. When we left we got gas at a station not far away. It had the cheapest gas in town.

Room Tip: there is no laundry, but not far is a laundry called the Penny Pincher which is about a mile down th...

Having stayed many times at the El Pueblo, it is like coming home each time. The grounds are welcoming and the every present Pinon wood burning bring back great memories. Recently updated, it is always a very nice place to stay.

Room Tip: Choose the old section for an authentic Taos type lodging. Very SW style.

Reserved a room here after reading the reviews on TA - was as good as everyone said. HUGE room, brand new comfortable beds, plenty of places to set luggage, clean! And the room warmed up quickly - something we don't always see in the SouthwestThe breakfast was very nice, in a lovely, "wandering" seating area. The lady in charge was terrific - offering coffee refills, keeping everything cleaned & filled, chatting with the guests.

Great stay in Taos. This hotel has the best location, walking distance to shopping and restaurants and lovely grounds for just chillin'. The breakfast was better than most and so cozy to sit on the veranda with coffee. The beds were like sleeping in a cocoon with the fluffy comforters and pillows; loved that. Will definately stay again and recommend to friends.
