When we travel we make it a point to visit all of the UNESCO sites. The historical and/or cultural significance of these sites can sometimes be compromised by todays culture. Such is the case at Taos Pueblo with the shops sellings hand made jewelry and the $5 camera charge. But don't let this keep you from visiting. You may even find something unique and unusual or some fresh baked bread to enjoy.
If you are looking for a Disney experience this is not it. This is the oldest continually occupied settlement of its kind. The buildings don't look new because they aren't. The church is a small old mission very well maintained. The streets are dirt. This is a small village at the foot of a mountain situated next to a clear unpoluted river.
Take the 30 minute tour. Visit the shops...there aren't that many. Experience the culture.
