“A magical experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

Our stay at Tau was perfect. We arrived by plane on a rough landing strip and the 50 minute transfer by jeep with our ranger was an additional game drive.
The staff were friendly and could not have been more helpful. The rooms were excellent and the individual viewing decks meant we spent almost all our time looking at animals and birds. The time between the morning and evening drives was easily filled but nevertheless I had a massage one day, sheer bliss!
The food was very varied and plentiful and of a high standard and the sundowners and breakfasts out in the bush were very welcome.
We have stayed at other reserves and this was definitely the most relaxing and amazing of them. The lions even came to the waterhole on our final morning to say goodbye!
We could not fault Tau and Madikwe and did not want to leave.

Room Tip: All the rooms overlook the waterhole

Our 3 night stay was outstanding from all aspects. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. The outside shower adds a nice touch. The food was also excellent with a lot of variety and so tasty we always tended to eat too much! Our guide/ranger was Megan and she was great. She made the game drives interesting since she has so much knowledge to share . We managed to see 4 of the Big 5 in our short stay. Lions, elephants, wild dogs and much more were all seen at close range. It was very hot at the time and the shaded coverings on the game drive vehicles were most welcomed by all. The other bonus is the waterhole at the lodge itself which attracts a lot of game. We saw plenty of game while enjoying our meals. In summary - great place with friendly staff.

This is a terrific lodge. The rooms are clean and well appointed, the food is good (and lots of it) and our ranger Megan was outstanding in her knowledge and enthusiasm. I have never seen wild dogs or nyala before so that was a first for me. And there seemed to be lions everywhere. It's well worth prying yourself out of bed for an early morning game drive!

Room Tip: Each room is a separate cottage so any one is quiet and isolated. The higher number rooms are furth...

We had a great stay at this lodge. Saw 4 of the big 5. Nothing was a problem for the staff at this lodge. Room, Staff, Food were all fantastic. Its a great place. Our driver Darren was excellent. He went out of his way to find things of interest to fill in the tour while finding the big 5.

I went to Tau Game Lodge on an official trip, the service we recieved was so amazing. Our laggauge was sent to our rooms after our arrival. During dinner we saw elephants, buffalos, crocodiles at the waterhole. It was a great experience. The serivce they provide is the best and the guards are awesome. Darren and Megan they did a great job. The only problem is that there is no sign of Tau Game Lodge from the Tlokweng Border side.

First the game viewing; all accommodation as far as we could see had a direct view of the waterhole, which although artificial feels quite natural. It attracts huge numbers of wildlife, and affords great viewing; in many ways, no need to go out on drives at all. The game drives were quiet with little traffic as the park is private, having limited access to the public. This meant that we had good game viewing, and enhanced by the obvious cooperation of all the guides to ensure good and fair viewing opportunities. We saw plenty of lion and wild dog; even a wild dog kill. Loads of elephant. Grant is a well informed and entertaining guide, who helped us enjoy the park to it's fullest. We went in september and the resort was fairly quiet.

The accommodation was good, and the views of the game from our verandah made up for the relatively cosy accommodation complained about in other reviews, which was in fact more than adequate. The food was excellent and plentiful, with perhaps a little room for more imagination, but hey- this is a rustic safari experience and as such was great. Service was generally excellent.

It is obvious why this park is popular with South Africans; always a good sign when locals recognise quality and value.

The park is being developed, and I sincerely hope that they maintain the feeling that it is a natural wilderness, rather than a highly managed theme park which has often been the result of over-commercialisation in other areas.

Having been to many game parks, I can recommend this as a good experience.

I went to Madikwe as part of our corporate offsite in May. As our group was relatively large, I ended up staying in the Matla lodge. Although Matla was about a 10 min drive away from the main lodge, the facilities were fantastic and its certainly a great place if you wanted some more peace and quiet. If you were going as a small group or as a couple, I would certainly recommend the Matla lodge over the Tau lodge. The room was quite nice and roomy. The viewing deck was opposite the watering hole which meant we had some interesting sighting.

The reserve is well set up and we saw most of the big 5 (elephants, lions, rhino etc). The highlight was when we drove up to the pride of lions where there must have been over a dozen!

The main lodge is quite nice as well and has more game viewing opportunities from the lodge itself. Elephants, zebras etc would regularly come up to the watering hole opposite the lodge.

Certainly a good way to experience the African wildlife!
