“Perfection gift wrapped in excellence placed in paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2013

Greeted again like family, our butler David had postponed his leave to be with us and remembered everything about us and ALL the staff take an obvious delight in delighting their guests at every opportunity. The food quality higher than ever (congrats to Oscar and Grimond) and as always this very very special place has stolen yet another piece of our hearts. The location is quite magnificent and the pleasure of our game drives were added to immeasurably by the attentive and sensitive approach of Ranger Lee-Anne and trackers Richard and Norman. Despite the absolute professionalism of our team I always feel that there is a small element of luck in what you find when in the bush - suffice to say Mother Nature put on the greatest show on earth for us and we had the best seats in the house!! I run out of superlatives whenever I describe Tented Camp - its a big world out there but this was our 5th visit and hopefully will not be our last.

This luxury tented game reserve had just the right mix of commodious accommodations, friendly staff, beautiful setting and terrific wildlife viewing. The unique feature of Ngala is that most of the time it is only the 6 - 8 occupants of your Land Cruiser up close and personal with the animals. No other vehicles congregating. We had the most amazing guide - Dylan - and his spotter - Adam - who found us baby leopards, a herd of elephants mud-bathing, lions readying for a hunt (until they lost interest and went back to playing), giraffes, hyenas, buffalo, hippos (both in and out of the water), multiple rhinos, wart hogs, jackals.....have I left anything out? Their passion for the environment and its protection was inspiring. Dylan even took us on a bush walk and pointed out the tiniest fauna and flora...his knowledge was so incredibly deep and broad. What an introduction to our first visit to Africa! Just memorable! If there were a rating higher than excellent, this reserve would deserve it!

I was at Ngala Tented Camp for my honeymoon, and I knew it would be amazing, but I had no idea that Ngala would become my absolute favorite vacation experience. The game drives were beyond amazing; our Ranger Dylan was amazing. He was so knowledgeable and friendly and just made us feel extra special while out in the bush, And our tracker Adam was the absolute best; we were up and personal with so much wildlife and game, and saw a few rarities that are not commonly seen, like the elusive and mysterious Serval. The tented camp at Ngala is fully inclusive, and they delivered in style; best value for my dollar! The chef's are outstanding! The facilities were well manicured and stylish, the tents amazingly comfortable and luxurious, and the staff ... there are no words to describe the levels of hospitality. Our personal butler David catered to our every whim and desire. There was even an onsite masseuse that gave one of the 5 best massages I've ever experienced; maybe even top 2. The onsite manager Zane' kept us informed and entertained, and I just can't say enough. If you want a special trip, with memories to last a lifetime, plan a Safari and stay at the Ngala Tented Camp and get ready; elephants stop by to drink at the pool. There are no children at the Ngala Tented Camp, but if you have kids and want to bring them, &Beyond at Ngala offers a Lodge as well, also located on the Private reserve, that caters to families with children.

Room Tip: The views of the riverbed from Tent 1 were amazing. Also, get a massage during the period between br...

We just arrived from Rattrays at Mala Mala in Sabi Sands which was very tough to match for their accomodations, service, food and game viewing. That said I felt that the food at the tented camp was good and the tents were nice but nothing special. Staying in a tent did add a new experience for our South African trip. Our ranger was extremely knowledgeable and had a terrific personality. The number of animals we viewed did not compare to the number we saw at Mala Mala although our ranger's commentary made up for the difference. The staff were very nice and accommodating.

I arranged a Safari to Africa for a small group of friends, working with "and beyond" bespoke safari service. Their service is amazing and Ngala Tented Camp, a private reserve outside of Kruger Game Park in S.A. is South Africa at its very best. We were treated here to the most up-close game viewing of our 24 day trip. Our guide, Dylan, seemed to know the habits of every animal and every bird in the 36,000 acre park. He, with the help of our tracker, Adam, got us up close and very personal with not the Big Five but even better with 9 of the big 10 - the only one missing was the African Wild Dog (and we did not really miss him at all!) The sightings of elephants, leopards (and their kill), white rhinos, Cape Buffalo, giraffes, hyenas (and their kill), lions (and their many feasts!) and a family of 8 cheetahs were breathtaking. The depth of knowledge from these guys made every day an educational experience way beyond what we had ever expected. The night drives were exhilarating, capped off by finding ourselves in the midst of a pride of 20 lions preparing for their evening hunt. Watching them move about and around our open vehicle, literally feet from us, gave new meaning to the word "excitement." Then, there were sundowners in the open veldt, sometimes lighted with glowing lanterns as darkness fell; sometimes in the complete darkness so we could be introduced to Africa's vast and brilliantly spangled night sky. Capping it all off, the food in the lodge was terrific and varied from breakfast, through lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. The cocktail hour was filled with an opportunity to compare our game viewing with that of other guests in the lodge and to swap stories of our sightings. The naughty monkey who one day stole a complete cake from the afternoon tea and the elephants who visited along the dry river bed just below our tents only added to the reality of being in the wild. The true wilderness was all around us but, at night, when we tucked into our elegant tents - these were really luxurious rooms surrounded by tented walls, complete with spa-like bathrooms, including the choice of an open stone shower or a huge tub - we still heard the myriad sounds of the African night and we rejoiced that we had chosen this camp to be the last of our safari experiences. We will carry its ambience in our hearts forever and pray that we will be lucky enough to go back soon. And did I mention that you can get the most fabulous massages either in the spa or in your room? And that the infinity pool overlooks the dry river bed so game viewing can occur while you sun or swim? 'And Beyond ' really knows how to get it all right!

Room Tip: I recommend asking for a room that overlooks the river bed. Two members of our group were in one of...

Authentically perfectly-perfect game drive experience...

- Educational approach offered by extremely knowledgable guides and experienced trackers.
- Caring charm and warm personality from staff.
- Coupled with mutual respect for the land and the animals.

If you love nature, animals, off-roading, fresh air day and night, a hot coffee and a warm smile to greet you at 5:00 in the morning ... then Ngala is for you.

Ngala - five star experience!

After Kirkman's Kamp and Ngala Safari Lodge we moved on to the Ngala tented camp, this is truly special, the "tents" are really exceptional (not tents at all really) and the small size of the camp make it a very personal experience. This coupled with an excellent guide, Derrick, and the attentiveness of the staff made this a near perfect experience. Once again, as with the previous camps we visited, the game was abundant and the tracker really could find that needle in a hay-stack if required.
Anyone visiting this area of South Africa really must put aside some time for the Ngala tented camp, amazing in every regard and the scenery and game is just spectacular.

Room Tip: They've had to "rebuild" tents due to flooding last year so if you visit in the rainy...
